Having trouble sticking to it!!

So me and a friend that is staying with me went to the gym for two weeks straight only missing one day within the two weeks. I was eating within my alloted calories and felt so much better about myself. I was gaining weight though? I dont know why...it seems like my body was in shock that I was doing all this since I have not excercised in a while and was holding on to the weight. For the last week and a half I have not gone to the gym. To be honest today I went to taco bell and it put me over my calories of 1,200 by about 900 calories. I had it set to loose 2 pounds a week so the amount of calories I could have is a lot less then what I am use to. I weighed myself yesterday though and I had lost 3 pounds which is very shocking. Anyways my friend is giving up on going to the gym and making bad decisions with food like wanting to go to mcdonalds and not being supportive of me wanting to loose weight. She says she does not care because she is going to get weight loss surgery which is whatever except I dont have the money to do that nor do I feel I need to or want to go that route to loose weight. I have about 50 pounds to loose to get to my goal weight at this point, and everytime I try to loose weight it seems like I feel deprived from all the food I am use to and just go crazy and stop caring and eat way more and things that are horrible for me. I need some motivation to go to the gym whether someone else wants to be by my side in my weight loss journey or not. Also not to give in when all my other friends are making unhealthy decisions. I want to do this for me and I feel so bad after I make a bad decision but the results from this seem like they are so far away. Feels like when I do truly try and put in all the hard work and effort that I am not getting anywhere. Anyways I am sorry just had to vent and here is to tommorow and a better day!

my 2 cents.....
you shouldnt be doing a 1200 cal a day if you are going to the gym everyday. its not very healthy or safe, your body will go into starvation mode and then just crash and burn and you put on weight when you go to the gym because your body is using more muscles than you are used and so your muscles are retaining more water in order to function better
if i was you, i'd raise my cal's to 1600 a day for days in which you exercise, eat healthy calories that is. have a whey protein shake after your workout or something.0 -
I don't know how much you weigh now, and what you want to weigh and how tall etc you are, but it could be that setting yourself up for a 2 pound loss a week is just setting yourself up to fail. It may be more realistic to shoot for a smaller loss each week so that you get more to eat and that you don't feel like you are constantly failing.
This post from Banks (as always) is excellent - and I have to say I've been following it as far as setting up what I should be losing each week...it is coming off steadily, maybe not super fast, but it is coming off, and I don't feel so hungry I could kill someone!

Good luck

The main reason that I have managed to lose the weight that I wanted to is that I HAVE been able to eat goodies every now and then. Through MFP I learned that I just need to "work for it", through exercise, and watching my numbers (MOST of the time.)
Before coming here, I tried just about EVERYTHING out there, including hypnosis, (TWICE) but nothing really worked. I always felt deprived of all the "good stuff" out there, and therefore, could only last just so long, and then I'd cave and be right back to eating all the "goodies" I wanted.
But then I came here, and started my new "lifestyle change", and as long as I "work with my numbers", I CAN occasionally have stuff like Chinese food, a double cheeseburger, pizza, and even homemade icecream!
Hopefully it'll be the same way for you too!0 -
Do not be discouraged!!!
Weight loss is sometimes kind of weird like that. What the scales say is only part of the overall picture.
I can do really well for two weeks and not see any weight loss or possibly even weight gain...but then all of a sudden I will drop two pounds...even if I am not being as diligent.
The body is a complex machine and the secret is to be consistent and just stick with it.
Here is what you DO know! If you quit now you will never lose the weight.
Sooo, take the plunge! Stick with it for 2 full months and see what happens.
I agree that you should read Banks. He is really good and knows what he is talking about.
Increase your calories a bit and eat your excercise calories! I know it doesn't make sense but it works!
Find some friends here if you face to face friends are not supporting you.:drinker:
Find that strength to love yourself enough to do this!!!
Blessings!
