This is all new to me. A few questions about the heart-rate monitor. Where is a good place to look for one? Are there features to consider and are some brands better than others? What price range are they?

I got mine brand new off an ebay-like site called trademe for about half the price it was at the store. Don't fall for the ridiculously high prices you see at sports shops and such.

Polar sells good, solid heart rate monitors. You would want one with a chest strap to get the most accurate readings.
