Drunkorexia
Did anyone hear of this somewhat new trend called drunkorexia. In a nutshell... a trend amongst young women where they skimp on calories in order to drink them. Huge health risks especially when done on a regular basis. I know that if I'm having a big night out, I'll eat lighter to try to balance (not drastic but just being aware) but this happens once in a blue moon. Just found the whole story interesting.

I think I approach it from another angle. I eat like hell if I'm going to be out drinking. For me, the extra calories are worth their weight in gold to avoid being hungover for two days afterwards!0

my 2 older sisters (46 and 51) have been doing that for atleast the last 20 years.
they are NOT aging well0 -
Me too but not to the point where it would be classified as an eating disorder. I remember reading on WW when I was on their plan to save some points if you were planning on drinking. I think this new term drunkorexia is meant for people who are constantly eating little to no food in order to drink their faces off!0

I wouldn't think so! Must age them!0

I might work out extra0

lol...I have to say that I am completely guilty of this.0

Guilty, but then drinking makes me uber hungry and I scarf down my kitchen when I get home.
You'll find me at Over-eaters Anonymous before Drunkorexia Support Groups.
I can't f*cking win!! :P0 -
Not just women haha.
If I'm going out, I'll eat essentially 100% protein for the day for around 1,000kcal, then drink beer. Means I can have 15 beers and still be at maintenance. Great success0 -
I definitely eat lighter during the day if I'm going out at night. Also usually get some activity in. It's always worked well for me. Then when I get home and raid the kitchen I normally end up around maintenance
I also "try" to stick to as much protein as possible based on the alcohol article on lean gains.com0 -
I'll pretty much eat my base cals, and then drink my exercise cals, when I want to go out...works well for me...but still healthy IMO (everything in moderation!)0

I never heard of this term. Then again, I'm a one-drink-cheap-date kind of gal, so it likely flew under my radar. I don't see the draw to drinking to excess. I don't like how it makes me feel when I'm tipsy, and that's just from one drink. I cannot imagine having two! :-P0

My plan: 1-3 drinks maximum per night out. Only vodka with soda and lime or tequila, neat...LOTS of water. I work out more, snack a little less...not a big deal, and I never feel like total crap the next day. I only go out to bars 2-3 times a month, if that. Binge drinking is as irresponsible as binge eating, and certainly more dangerous...of course it's taken me a good 20 years to learn that! Ha!0

there is a name for that! HAHA I do it all the time lol0

cant say I've ever really factored calorie counting into my drinking, I do however try very hard to avoid falling back into my old trend of a liquid diet. When I put weight on or get depressed, I cut out food except for maybe lunch and an afternoon snack, then rest of the evening was just drinking, I'd drop weight super fast, cause I'd be up partying all night...0

I think a lot of people are guilty of eating less in order to consume more calories from booze but what the news story was about is this as a lifestyle for college aged women...not just a once in awhile thing. They were stating that these women are living their lives like this and it's doing huge harm to their bodies. I don't know if 'drunkorexia' is a term the newscaster coined or actually a new term for an eating disorder. Just found the whole concept intriguing.0

definitely guilty!!
If i go out saturday night - my sunday is also usually low calorie day because i cannot bring myself to eating much...
someday maybe i'll learn!0 -
Drinking copious amounts of alcohol on an empty stomach is a recipe for disaster.0

I did this for a few years.
But then I got fat, because my body wasn't properly burning fat because I was drunk 85% of the time.
And now I'm here.0
