Group exercise classes -- recommendations?

Okay, so when I joined a gym back in February, I had not exercised in 30 years or so. I've worked out on machines now -- weights, etc., as well as treadmill and bike -- about 3-4 times a week since then. I recently changed gyms for a variety of reasons, but one is that this new gym offers group classes. I went to a beginning step class one night last week, and I was worked out but enjoyed it (although my clutzy, uncoordinated self had a bit of trouble following the steps). What other kinds of group classes do you recommend? Has anyone ever taken a step-sculpt class? Do you think that's something my 55-year-old body could handle after being sedentary for so many years? I have lost close to 50 lbs. and need to lose 50 more, but I also want to continue working out even after I meet my weight loss goal. I feel so much better since I started exercising -- I have so much more energy and agility. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Zumba!! Or any other dance type class. They're a lot of fun and time flies. Step & sculpt sounds like it could be a good cardio/weight training class. As with any choreographed class, it takes a few times to catch onto all the steps, so don't be discouraged! Pilates is also great for core/waist definition if your gym offers it.

Oh, yes! I want to fit a zumba class or two in there because I do think it would be a lot of fun. Took aerobics a few times back in the 80s when the disco craze was at its peak, and I thought they were a lot of fun. Just wondering if anyone has any input on the various types of classes most gyms offer and what your thoughts/experiences are.
