Well- I'm getting married next June and started MFP for many reasons, but my first goal is to be healthy & in shape for our upcoming wedding.

Anyone else out there? (or even if you're not getting married soon/already committed/sworn off significant others...you're more than welcome to be a part of it and have us cheer you on too!)

I'd like to develop a weekly challenge & support team if anyone is game:
We'll take small steps in the right direction- like one week focusing on drinking enough water each day, another week adding in a new fruit or veggie to our diet etc.

Who's with me!! We can do it! :D

Let's start with the stats if you're comfortable :)

I am in! I am getting married in May and I want to lose the lasts 20 pounds or so that I have been carrying. I lost about 10 pounds since July, but have been on MFP since the beginning of October, so I will use that as my starting weight.

I am getting married next July and I want to lose ten more pounds by April (about a half a pound a week). I have already lost 20+ pounds since last June, but I have been on a plateau for a month or so. I had been loosing pregnancy weight before, but since I am now at my pre-prego weight I feel like I am dealing with a different kind of weight loss.

Woo! Let's start this then :)
(People can join in later if they'd like since we'll keep changing up/adding in goals)

Way to go Aurora with your 20+lbs loss already...& Marilla, awesome with the 10! I can't wait to hit that first 10lb mark myself :D

So...do either of you have preferences on when you'd like to weigh in?

And do either of you have a goal/idea in mind?

For me, I've been getting into a diet slump- eating the same things every single day. I'm sure I'm missing out on other yummy (possibly better) options out there.

I'd like to set a goal to try and add at least ONE new fruit, veggie, and whole grain to my diet this coming week/weekend.
*I've never tried brussel sprouts (kinda scared on that one) but a friend of mine looooves 'em
*I saw persimmons at the Farmer's Market and though "hmmmm"- but haven't gotten around to try
    *Anyone tried Quinoa? :/

Hey there! I'm a bride to be... although my wedding isn't until Oct. 2011. But I want to have all my weight gone by August/Sept. next year so I can focus on planning and getting my dress and whatnot.

    Hi lizagna!
    :D
I have a good friend/workout buddy that's in your exact same boat. I think Aug/Sept is completely doable!

Any thoughts on goal preferences etc?

My goals for this week are to get enough water in, stay within my calories (this one is hardest for me), and I want to try and workout at least 3-4 times this week.

Those sound like great goals. Staying within calories is hardest for me. I generally think I drink enough water, but I need to really keep track to be certain. I would like to workout 5 times this week.

I think I'll join you two with 'getting enough water in' and upping my workout to at least 5 times this week. I've been doing alright getting in the 3-4- but I think I have to step it up (or work out harder in those 3-4) to start making real progress :/

I went over on my calories big time yesterday and didn't get my workout in. No excuses. I will just do better today.

It must have been just 'that kinda day.'
    I did the same!!!
Yesterday was one of the first really dreary days out here and I had a headache...which just compounded and I decided to be lazy and sleep rather than workout. Since I had already eaten budgeted calories for an evening workout- well...pop!

Oh well- today is a new day, yes? :D

I have done better today. I exercised and did the Level 1 of 30 Day Shred. I start a 10-week weight loss competition next week so I am trying to get my game face on and compete.

Hi there, I've been married for 9 years, but was just browsing the message boards, and had to weigh in here on the foods you mentioned, which all happen to be favorites of mine--I also LOVE brussels sprouts  cut in half, lightly steamed (overcooked makes them bitter and smelly), then sauteed in a tiny bit of butter so the cut sides get a little bit carmelized is my favorite way to eat them.
And persimmons are also YUMMY--mostly I just cut them up and eat them raw--very sweet and tasty (I tend to prefer the fuyu ones, which stay firmer).
Quinoa is wonderful--cooks quickly, has a better texture and flavor than rice (I think) and loaded with fiber and iron. Try it as a side dish mixed with a little vinaigrette made with apricot fruit spread and some toasted almonds. Yum!
At any rate, good luck on your quest--I think trying new foods is a great goal to have!

You ARE a 'bride' ya know...and this is open to, well, everybody :D

I've been sick all week so unfortunately I didn't meet much of any of my goals for the week. Starting to feel a little better so I'll be using the same goals for next week and hopefully I'll be able to meet all of them.

Hope everyone else has been rockin this week! :flowerforyou:

And since we're all pretty much brides to be I thought I would ask, are you using any great websites for ideas, planning, information, etc and wouldn't mind sharing? I've found offbeatbride.com and theknot.com which are pretty cool but I know there has to be more out there.

Did you see the following inspirational post? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/70977-for-all-the-brides-out-there

Went a little over my calories yesterday because I forgot how many I had left. I guess that is why I need to log. It is really easy to eat without thinking about it. Fridays are usually my exercise day off, but I did work out this morning.

I also fit into a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to wear for a very long time. The weight is coming off more slowly than I would like, but I seem to be making some progress.

    HI Marilla-
I'm not sure who else is still watching this thread. :/
If anyone else is...how about we weigh in on Fridays?

Otherwise, Marilla, would you like to be email/fitness buddies? We can just email eachother each Friday :D

That works for me. I received your friend request and accepted. Fridays are fine (I weigh myself far too often so pretty much any day is good)

I added a Wedding Countdown ticker to my signature. Maybe that will keep me on the right track :)

I am watching this thread too! I have been off track lately. Last week I made a batch of cookies and definitely consumed most of them...so good and so bad! Hopefully that was just a freak out and I can get back into my healthy pattern. I have been active almost every day, so I think that has prevented too much gain.
149 this morning (same as friday)

    Hey ladies-
Glad to know we've still got a couple on here :D

I think I'm going to add a wedding tracker to my signature as well!

    Soooo...on a wedding note...
Who's already started trying on wedding dresses?
And if not, when do you plan on starting?
Any good hints on shapes etc that look best on you?

I've only tried on a few (my Bridesmaids made me when they were shopping for theirs) since I should be doing my REAL shopping in January w/ my Mom & sis...
In the meantime- given my body type- it looks like I should be going with a ahem..."modified mermaid/trumpet style with a lace-up back."
It's pretty much the best type to hug my quasi hour-glass. hehehe

I have my dress picked out, but I haven't bought it yet. Partly because I want to pay some things off first and partly because I want to be able to buy it in a smaller size. Mine is an A-line with side draping that I think is very flattering. I preferred one that was not strapless and this one has lace and beaded cap sleeves that could be removed. It is definitely "the one" and we knew it when I tried it on. I found it at David's Bridal. I plan to buy it in January.

I tried on dresses for fun and found one that I really liked. It was a satin A-line gown with a halter top instead of sleeveless. Really pretty beading on the bodice and had a colored bow on the back, so beautiful!

Of course once I hit my goal weight I'll be trying on dresses again, I'm sure some won't look good on me and other styles will look fabulous that look bad now.

I think I tried on that dress when I was there   I found the one I think I want at David's Bridal too

The A-lines are great for a lot of different shapes... and it really brought out an hourglass figure in me. I saw pictures my MOH took and I was shocked at how good and skinny I looked in one!

How is everyone doing this week? Gearing up for Turkey Day? My strategy is to work out in the morning and then keep the portions small and not sample every single thing.

I bought my dress already! Here it is if you want to see... Simple and pretty. no beads or lace for me. I wouldn't even get white if my partner wasn't excited about it.
    http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WeddingParties/Wedding_Bride/gowns/PRDOVR~72169/72169.jsp
Jcrew has some nice dresses and I bought this one when they had a 20% off sale.
I need to alter it a bit to keep my boobs from falling out, so if I loose any weight then I will just have it taken in at the same time.

    Aurora,

That is beautiful! So classic and elegant. Here is a link to mine:

    http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&catentryId=6096930

I don't think the picture really does it justice and mine will be in ivory.

    marilla,
oooo, I like your shoulder straps.
    Everyone,
How has the planning been going? Is anyone doing a low-budget affair? I am trying to figure out the cheapest way to get it all done without getting to stressed out!

We are paying for everything ourselves, so cost is definitely an issue. My vision for my wedding is intimate and classic. We are planning a small wedding in the beautiful chapel of my church, surrounded by close friends and family. I think that the smaller wedding will help alleviate some of the stress for me. At least I hope so...
