new ~ need help starting out

Hello everyone!
I am new here. A bit about me... I had a baby almost 2 years ago, never lost the baby weight and then packed up some more (!) GASP~
OK , the BIG picture is to loose 100lbs, but slowly, I know that's the right thing to do, but where do I start... I am always tired and lazy. I need to learn how to be active again, how to have fun....

    Being active is not always fun, it is committment and follow through. After you lose weight is often when the real fun begins--even if it is only part of the weight.

  • Hi, i to have a two year old soon to be three(in december). i to packed on the weight after my daughter who is going to be 10 on wednesday. She has only known me as big. All i can do is encourage you to make better choices in the foods you eat....(we are what we eat) and maybe pickup walking 30 minutes a day everyday and keep within your calorie suggested for you to loose one pound a week. Ive lost almost 45 pounds just making simple changes Its been 9 monthes and ive got so much more energy and feel so much better. I still have 60 pounds to go but trust me little steps all the way.     Hello Katunder, walking I've found is the best form and easiest to attain a health body. Just starting out with slow walks and building upon that with longer and or faster walking , just generally moving yourself around more than what your current routine may be will do the trick.   • First thing I would do is get rid of all the bad food you have in the house! If it's not there then you wont be tempted. Go to the store on a full stomach and get yourself some good healthy food :) Don't deprive yourself though. It's all about portion control. You can enjoy the things you love in MODERATION. Log in EVERYTHING you eat!! You will be surprised of how many calories you actually eat on a regular day when you're not watching what you eat. I was amazed of how much a was over eating. Then you can start planning out your meals and entering in things you plan to eat to see where that would put you for the day. It will become easier and easier as you progress.

    If you don't exercise at all, start out walking several times a week for twenty minutes and increase distance and pace as you become stronger. That's how I started out and now I'm running and rollerblading about everyday.

    Slow and steady wins the race- so cliche but true. I started April 1st with moderate activity- bike riding and walking a few times a weeks for 20 mins. Reducing your portions will be huge. When you log your food, it will really help. If you work, pack a lunch! Salad, fruits etc.

    Hey, welcome!

    First of all you should give yourself a big pat on the back for taking this step :smile: .

    Second, you should set realistic goals. Start off with weekly goals such as maybe walking a bit more, and incorporating some healthy foods into your diet, etc. And as la4et stated, slow and steady wins the race. It's not easy making a lifestyle change, and don't expect ''results'' right away. It will take time as progress is often one step forward and one step back.

    Third, and most important I think, is to take the time to re-examine your life, and do a bit of ''soul searching''. If there are negative things in your life, do your best to distance yourself from the things that drag you down. Being around positive people who support you is important. Also, educate yourself and don't fall prey to all the media and diet crap. There is no magic pill or drink.

    Lastly, don't associate ''losing'' weight with ''happiness'' :) Don't focus so much on the "end" result because you will miss out on the actual journey. You'll find yourself less stressed out, and also enjoy the progress and change.

    I know what needs to be done but its almost as Im scared to take the 1st step, or should I say the next step. It has been so much easier to ignore my weight problem and to just keep gaining more weight... Now that my daughter is a toddler, I know I must do what I can to be a better mom. But I am so scared of failure (I failed way to many times), and now I need to break this wall of bad habits and laziness... Oh on to planning some healthy meal plans.

    Hey girl!!!! I am glad you are here! Calorie counting has really kept me accountable. I think it's the eating and food that is the hardest part when trying to get healthy since it's an all day thing. Getting physical or working out is at least an hour a day. I wish you the best of luck!!!
