Social Eater- suggestions?

I've been reading posts where people have talked about being emotional eaters, and that's really not me. I've been trying to figure out what triggers poor eating habits and I've discovered that I'm a social eater. If you look at my food diary from the last two days, you'll see that Saturday was TERRIBLE and that Sunday was bad, though slightly less terrible because I realized my giant mistake from the previous day and tried not to over do it as much.
If I were by myself all the time, I would probably have really good eating habits, but would be a total hermit with a whole host of other issues.
Any solutions for how to tackle this issue? I want to be able to enjoy being in social situations and not be the hefty gal going for seconds at the potluck, so there's some motivation, but I want to internalize some strategies so that it's not just about feeling self-conscious, but being intentional.

Find a buddy that likes to share food - so when you go out you split an appetizer and split an entree.
If there's a buffet of food - or multiple snacks start with the healthy stuff. Munch the carrots before moving on to the more calorie heavy stuff.
Spend your calories on food rather than drinks. If you drink alcohol alternate w/diet soda or water between alcoholic drinks.
Your diary is locked so can't help ya there.0 -
If you can be more strict on the weekdays, then you can relax and enjoy more social meals on the weekend. This is not a free pass to eat an entire pizza, keep some level of moderation.
If you always east big on Saturday, go lighter on Thursday and Friday. Think total calories in vs out for the week, and then you can enjoy your social meals... and life itself!!0 -
Ugh, the curse. I'm the same way. Unfortunately I'm an emotional eater too... when I'm stressed I will eat everything in sight. When I'm nervous I won't eat for days... so I guess it goes both ways.
But in my family, every occasion has something to do with food. So I always associate association with people, with food.I'm looking for some advice here, too
