Don't go by BMI. I work with a lot of really fit guys whose BMIs would put them as obese. My dad is fat now he's in his 50s, but when he was skinny he would have still been classed as obese. My boyfriend has a BMI of 29 which is ridiculous (he looks damn fine without a shirt!) and he's also a 34.
Go by how you feel and how your clothes fit. Me, I'm trying to get back into the size 10 (Aus) super skinny jeans I bought at the start of last year. I'm still a 10 but can't get into them any more! Good luck!0 -

At 16 you are still growing, stay active, make good food choices and don't fret about it. Muscle weights more than fat, so don't let the scale freak you or your family out. If it is really bothering you that much go see your Dr, have a physical and ask them0

I'm about your height and weigh 205 lbs. I'm overweight. I'm also about as active as you. But I'm 29 years older. At your age I weighed 175lbs, so unless you are very active - you should consider how you are going to evolve over the next 10 years and how you want to feel and look. I think that is the message your parents are trying to make. Take a picture of yourself and look at it objectively.
If you need a second opinion talk more to your doctor or school nurse.
Don't get skinny, get fit.

Your BMI is high but that shouldn't matter if you feel and are healthy. The BMI chart can be wrong, once a teacher told me about how he had just come back from Africa and he was skinny so you could see his ribs but the BMI chart said he was overweight. It's best to talk to a doctor
I agree with this. You may be overweight according to the BMI charts, but that doesn't necessarily mean your body fat percentage isn't normal. I am 5'6" and 182lbs so almost 30lbs overweight (according to my doctor I should be 155lbs to be at the very TOP of the "average" weight for my height according to the BMI charts). I had my body fat percentage measured and I am within the normal range for my body fat percentage for my gender, age, and height. I am aiming to reach 160lbs and while working toward that I am trying to build muscle. When I hit 160lbs, I'll decide If I need to lose more. Right now, I can see my collar bones clearly and my ribs as well. I doubt I'll want to get under 160lbs judging by how I feel right now about my body.
You look great. You don't look overweight at all. Stay active! Build muscle! Focus on building muscle rather than losing weight.0 -
I have a male friend who is a personal trainer and a weight lifting champ. Dan is about 5' 7" tall and he looks very small and compact in street clothes, but when he's in the gym, Holy Moly! Not only is he pure muscle, his actual weight is 195. To look at him, you'd think, "Ah, 145 tops." A prime example of muscle weighing more than fat.

My husband is 5'11 and he weighs 193 lbs. There is hardly any fat on him, so I don't understand how that could possibly be over weight.

YOu are a 16yr old male, you have not finished growing yet. Are you active and making healthy food choices? Then keep that up and you will be fine. Ask your parents to make an appointment with a nutrition specialist too see how you are if it really bugs them .0

I am not a fan of the word "fat"... but based on your BMI, you are at the high end of overweight. You don't have a lot of muscle tone from what I can see in the picture but you certainly don't look fat! I would say "fit" over fat any day! You're young and you still have growing to do. You aren't at your max height and frankly, teenagers go through growth spurts. You bulk up, grow, lean out, then do it again.
I would just talk about it privately with your family doctor. He/she is in the best position to tell you if you are overweight or if you need a more strenuous exercise regime. Baseball is a great sport but not really known for being all that strenuous (in comparison to a sport with more continuous running such as soccer or basketball) so as long as you are supplementing your training with good activity (walking, running, swimming) and you're eating well, I wouldn't worry too much!0 -

But if you're happy, then no amount of criticism is going to motivate you to drop to a healthy weight.
You sound happy with yourself, and if you're confident then I say all power to you. Though you might look back in years to coem and wish you'd at least focussed on getting healthy.x

When I was 16 years old I too was 5" 11 (still am of course)weighed 210, and at 17 I weighed 225, but you want to know something, I had less then 10% body fat, and was an absolute BEAST! I was recruited to play college football in Alabama, and never once did someone mention me as being "extremely overweight" -- A STUD yes, FAT, NO.
Anyway guy (OP), as long as you're maintaining an active lifestyle, and are working out/running regularly, then you really don't have anything at all to worry about. -- If your parents are calling you fat, then they need to understand they buy the groceries in the house, so their habits need to change.0 -
You're still growing! If you do have a little extra BF perhaps you're getting ready to get a little taller? That seems to happen to my kids (who are girls, and 12, so YMMV). Just keep doing what you're doing for now. If it truly bothers you, talk to a nutritionist about it. Maybe you can cut a little junk out of your diet, or just choose better foods. But you are not fat!0

You remind me of my son, though he is twenty now and a tad over 6 foot and about your weight. I worry about his weight/health quite a bit. It's not because he is "fat". As you do, he works out regularly at the gym, plays basketball, works full time, etc. But he also eats a lot of high fat foods/tends to be an emotional eater, and thinks his body type is just not the type to look toned. He doesn't look fat at all, however, i know that one day when he is older, he may not be able to go to the gym everyday, lead a less active lifestyle, and the pounds will quickly come along. And if they don't, then i worry about his cholesterol and diabetes and heart health....it is the things we know from experience that can happen to those of us that did show a "tendency" while young. I would bet that is why your family is on you about it...since you aren't "toned" and maybe you don't eat very healthy (fruits/veggies, etc.) that they worry more about your future, based on what you do now. Not entirely fair, i know, but thought i'd pop in from the parenting perspective. Don't worry about your weight/what's in the mirror, but do try to start learning a bit about the foods you put into your body and slowly incorporate healthier things, if you do indeed eat fairly unhealthily...just my 2 cents...0

For you, it appears that you have a LOT of muscle mass. If you're truly 13% body fat, you're pretty darn good. 10-12% is optimal for a male.0

At your age and height, your waist measurement should be no more than 33-34. If you are above that, then you should work on getting your body fat percentage down a bit.0
