negatives (or falling down) advice

Well, I found our old chin up bar, re-fitted it, read up on t'internet and watched some videos,and today tried to do 8 negative chin-ups
hmmm, as soon as my feet stopped supporting me, I just fell down to the floor - none of this "lower yourself slowly" stuff for me, not even once! My arms absolutely cannot bear my own weight:sad:
Is this something that I should keep going with at this stage, or should I try to build up just a little strength first? Will falling down negatives still build the muscle?
I've been working on my press ups - at about footstool height now. Should I wait until I can do the 10 I'm aiming for on the floor, then move onto chin ups/pull ups, or can I train them at the same time (well several hours apart TBH)?
Any advice welcomed

Use a chair to extend your legs out in front of you for support. You might only do one. But, that's ok. Keep at it.0

I'm not entirely sure I know what you are referring to, but if the intent is to lower yourself slowly, it's that resistance from your muscles against your weight that is helping to build your new muscle...so I'd say you are not going to get the same result with "falling"
I'd say to build up some upper body strength first then move back to this new exercise. I'm not an expert...by any means, this is just what I was able to extrapolate from what you were describing. Hope it helps0 -

Starting with the bar at eye level, remove my feet and "lower slowly to the floor" or in my case, fall rapidly down until arms are straight and feet reach the floor:laugh:0 -
waddya know- it must have done something cos my arms are killing me today:laugh:
I guess I'll keep trying every other day with my first goal to lower myself a little slower....0 -
Can you hold yourself up with the bar at eye level? I would starting by just holding yourself up to build some strength. Or you can do resistance band assisted pull ups or chin ups, so you have some supports. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93gNrOhy5KU0

I don't have a resistance band - am hoping to join a gym in September, so not going to buy any extra stuff for home atm..... but definitely something to look into after that, thanks0 -

I started by just dangling... not trying to lower or anything... just holding on to something and dangling... then after trying for a couple months I got to where I can dangle for 10 seconds... now I am working on negatives0
