Confused about "Net" Caloric intake numbers...

Hi, I'm Teena and I just joined last week.

I was given a daily Caloric intake number based on the amount of weight I want to lose and my current weight. I log in everday whatever food I ate and exercises that I did but at the end of the day when I complete the entries for that day it always tells me that I consumed too few calories.
When I go back in to look at my calorie intake it has a number for calories cinsumed minus calories burned during exercise and then has a total for net calories.

Am I really supposed to eat that many calories above and beyond the calories I burn during workouts??? For some reason that doesnt make any sense to me. I thought you were supposed to burn as many, if not more calories during workouts than you consume daily...Am i going about this the wrong way?

I have lost 10 lbs since I started dieting and exercising, but I'm sure most, if not all of that is water weight.
