Is there such a thing? I've been going over on my protein and if dieting has taught me anything, it's that you can have too much of anything.

Not likely. 1 gram of protein is 4 calories. Even if you ate 300g of protein per day, it wouldn't be a big deal, although it would be 1200 calories worth.0 -
Just be aware that there are studies out there that having a high protein/low carb diet can cause some some kind of "damage" (for lack of a better term) to your liver, indicated by elevated enzyme levels. Your liver is the primary metabolizer of protein, so it makes sense that a high protein diet will affect it.
FWIW, I'm going through this swirl with my doctor right now. Yearly physical with normal associated bloodwork showed elevated enzyme levels, all the secondary tests came back "normal." I mentioned I eat a high protein diet (I eat between 165 and 185g of protein each day with normal carb levels), and, while she thinks that may be the cause, still wants me to go get an ultrasound, etc., just to be sure. It's unclear to me what the long-term effects may be. Last time this happened, when I went off the high-protein diet, the enzymes went right back into "normal" levels. Personally, I'm not that worried about it, and with only a few weeks until my half-marathon running season starts, I'm not going to just change diets on a whim, so....0
