Women with PCOS or Hormone Testing

Hi ladies,

Just wondering if anyone has had their hormones tested because of weight gain/inability to lose weight? I have heard that it gives you a more accurate result of your thyroid and whatnot...anyone have experience?

I was diagnosed with PCOS back in 2005-ish and went on Metformin to help lose weight and help my insulin levels. I was then put on a very low dose for hypothyroidsim (only 50mcg). I lost about 50 pounds by watching my diet and exercising (I had been eating horribly before - typical high school student). I started seeing a new doctor about a year ago and she took me off both meds because she didn't think I had PCOS. Since then, I've gained at least 20 pounds...used to fit into a size 14 and now a 16 is really tight (luckily I'm not back to what I used to be though..). I've been working out 3-4 times a week for at least 45 minutes and just keep gaining weight...I also watch what I eat. My new doctor said she didn't think I have PCOS because I was on such a low dose of Metformin, too...she thought I lost the weight all on my own...and my previous doctor pretty much diagnosed me just by looking at me (not sure how that worked). But now I'm beginning to wonder if I DO have it...ugh!

If anyone has PCOS, how were you diagnosed? How do you maintain good health? Do you follow a low GI diet/what do your meals look like?

Really looking for some help here...add me as a friend if you'd like!!

Thanks!
