I trained with my trainer yesterday,we did strenght training first.i was so sore "feeling the burn" that i did not have enough stamina for cardio,so i left and ate some protein like he said.he said we worked out hard so with the protein shake i would feel better. I was so tired i took a nap.when i woke up my whole body was in pain! I could not really moved it,it hurt so much.I thought "wow i am in such bad shape".finally i could not take it anymore i took some tylenol.
I went to try to work out today, still sore/pain i thought i will try to work it out.well,i hurt my back instead.
My question is this,is this a normal way to feel after a strenght training,am i being a baby that can't handle it?
I going to see him in a few days and i am not looking forward to more.

Sorry about misspelling using my cell0 -
As long as all the soreness is in your muscles, yes it`s normal to feel that way. The good news is that as long as you stick with it, the same exercises will not keep causing you to be this sore. I only get sore now if I throw different moves in, or significantly up the weight on an exercise. However, pain in joints is not normal, you should see your dr if it doesn`t go away with a few days.0

Is weight/strength training new to you?
I think I must be slightly masochistic or something because I kinda like that soreness a little, not the omg it's too hard to wash my own hair or sit down to pee sore, but even then I smile and think how awesome it is that I was able to work those muscles and thst I'll be that much stronger next time.
If you are crazy sore though, it's best to take a rest day. Ibuprofen will help a little. Also make sure your staying in good form during your lifts!
Good luck, hope you feel better soon0 -
Strenght training is not new to,it is my second time with a trainer.yes it hurt to pee and i did not bother to take a shower i could not raise my arms,lol.0

If you're not used to it, you can get crazy sore from any new activity. The good news is that when you do it again (after giving yourself adequate time to get back to normal), you won't see nearly the same level of soreness. It improves more and more as your body adapts to what you're asking it to do.
I started a new exercise program a few weeks ago. After the first day I was hurting. I couldn't even dress myself because I couldn't lift my arms! And I was waddling around my apartment, groaning just trying to cross the living room. It took about four days to get to the point that I could manage it again, and the soreness was much less severe. I only had to rest one day after that. Now, I do it and am a bit sore the next day (it's still noticeable if I move in certain ways) but it's not so bad that I can't do anything.
This is one of those things where if you quit, you'll never make it any better; it'll be the worst every time you try because you aren't letting your muscles get used to it. If you just keep going, it'll get better.0 -

well, yes and no.
if this was your very first strength session, i can't see the logic in your trainer maxing you out so completely. i remember when a 'trainer' did that to me: i could barely drive home and i was in serious pain for a week with an inability to move. that's not right.
you do need to start somewhere and if you have average strength and no other mitigating issues that would limit proper form, an empty bar (assuming you are working with barbells and dumbbells) is a good place to start. its heavy enough to load your muscles and discover form weaknesses, but light enough to prevent collapse or injury. even if you can't start with an empty bar, you will get the feel for how 45 pounds sits on your shoulders or what it takes to lift it from the floor.
if your trainer has you working exclusively with machines, have a talk with them and see what their philosophy is regarding free weights and what they see as the ultimate goal for you before your sessions run out. they should be able to tell you how far they can go and hopefully you will be much more enlightened as far as overall strength traaining (and hopefully nutrition) goes and train by yourself until your goals change and you find you need a trainer once again.
don't be afraid to ask very specificquestions about what types of exercises they are having you do and why....and if there they are all machine-based, if there are corresponding free weight exercises that you can try. if they don;t want to even talk about free weights or wave your concerns away, get another trainer.0 -
yes it's normal. i've been lifting for years and the only strength training session worth doing in my opinion is one where I have nothing left for cardio afterwards.
keep in mind that the point of strength training (as opposed to general weight lifting) is to increase your strength, which means you should be pushing yourself your max and still keep great form so you dont hurt yourself.
the pain will go away. generally speaking even though I push myself very hard on strength training, i only get sore when i change my routine.
try foam rolling and an ice bath or ice shower. those really help0 -
I definitely get sore after a good, hard workout. It's normal. I find that warming up and stretching before and after usually helps. If it's bad, I'll put a cold pack on the ouchy parts and maybe even pop a Tylenol. If it's really bad, I'll take it easy on whatever body part is hurting until the soreness goes away, but that almost never happens (and is probably more indicative of a minor injury).0
