What's your prejudice?
Hi there,
when I think about Americans, I often have a special pic in my mind. Such things are called prejudice. Sometimes prejudice are right, sometimes they are completley wrong. One of my prejudice about Americans is that they mostley eat industrial crap, also known as fast food. And most of the posts I read on MFP confirm my prejudice (and so did my trips to USA). Many posts here are about quit eating fast food and that people here on MFP went to McDonalds and Co on a regular base (daily!!!). That's something you won't find in Europe. Of course there are also people eating fast food, also on a regular base, but not nearly as much as in America. I can't imagine how you can go to McDonalds and Co. every lunchbreak. Even thinking about eating like that makes me ill. And even if you don't have a weight problem, it's unbelivable unhealthy.
So this prejudice about Americans isn't probably one - probably it's even the truth.
What do you think? Am I totally wrong or do you confirm?
And what are your prejudice about other nations and countries?
Best Miiimii
P.S. I didn't want to insult someone. And I would prefer if no one insults someone else by writing done his prejudice. Thanks.

Nope.0 -
Sounds funny. Why shouldn't Europeans bath daily? Where your prejudice come from?
That's soccer is stupid is no prejudice, that's just your opinion. ;-)0 -
My prejudice about french people - they all like to dance the "duck dance" (canard danse).0

There is no way SOMEONE is not getting offended on this one...LOL...that's just not happening! :noway:0

Screw prejudice. I judge every nationality equally. They all suck.0

Spoken like a true "ignorant American." (and yes I am American and I do bathe on daily basis).0 -
To be fair though if you go on public transport in the UK chances are you will smell out a fair few individuals who don't wash daily!0

I'm sure not.
I'm prejudiced against Euro-trolls, however.0 -

This to me (like the soccer comment and all americans like fast food) also sounds like an opinion. I disagree with your OP, I dont like fast food and have never liked it. I know many Americans that feel the same and many that dont care either way BUT that being said, it is YOUR prejudice. To each their own.
This is a dangerous post to open up considering that it just fuels more prejudices. That being said, I will respond to your opinion about Americans.
My prejudice would be that europeans are loud and rude. I live in a place that we have many europeans vacationing in the area. The majority that I have seen/met have been rude, loud and crass with no regard or respect to the locals. I hope to visit Europe someday to see if they are any different in their own environment. Until then, the visitors are all I have to form that OPINION.0 -

Soccer IS stupid that's why we play football0 -
You are incorrect, not all Americans eat fast food daily or at all. Just because TV bombards us with those images doesn't mean that everyone is making that choice.
My prejudice is that Europeans are classist. They worship the rich and royal and think socialized medicine is the only requirement for helping the less fortunate.0 -
Lots of Americans eat very poorly, it’s totally true. Probably a majority of Americans, even.
But I don’t. And I’m American. This is where prejudices get you into trouble - assuming that because one or many do something ALL of that group do the same thing.0 -
I'm prejudice against people who don't know the meanings of words. . .
prej·u·dice /ˈprɛdʒədɪs/ Show Spelled [prej-uh-dis] Show IPA noun, verb, prej·u·diced, prej·u·dic·ing.
noun
1. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.
2. any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.
3. unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding a racial, religious, or national group.
4. such attitudes considered collectively: The war against prejudice is never-ending.
5. damage or injury; detriment: a law that operated to the prejudice of the majority.
So there can never be truth to a prejudice as it is merely your opinion. . .0 -

Take public transport anywhere in the world and you're bound to run into a person or two who don't smell all that lovely.0 -

In my opinion you are a dirty nasty troll.....not that I want to insult you or anything!0 -
I think you all mean stereotype. Prejudice is the negative feelings you have toward those people because of the stereotype whether its true or not. I hope you weren't talking about spreading hate. lol0

Although europeans can vary, the life I've seen in various parts of Europe is different than in the US. I know quite a few people who live in the UK who mention eating 'take away' (as they call it) quite frequently. so my impression is that people in the UK tend to eat out a lot.
Some Americans eat out a lot and some struggle with eating out but honestly, fast food generally has less calories than your average sit down restaurant here.
I personally hate fast food so that has never been an issue for me. On my own, I eat out once or twice a month, a falafel is probably my biggest indulgence but that is rare. Sometimes I have to travel for work which means eating out but I try to get in decent meals when I can.0 -
and think socialized medicine is the only requirement for helping the less fortunate.
eh?0 -
As I grow older I think I'm discovering my prejudices are facts that it is not PC to re-itterate0
-
the OP is very naive to confuse prejudice with making stereotypes. Another contender for 'dumbest thread of the year'.0
-
I lived in Europe for 24 years and US for 7 years so far.
Americans are extreme as far as food goes. You have people that eat fast food every day for lunch ( cause its easy and cheap) and then you have people that will get depressed if they have anything but salad.
As far as Europeans being loud, thats true to a point, try and go to dinner with my Greek side of the family..ugh
Bathing and shaving is BS !!!0 -

Unfortunately, I can say exactly the same thing about americans... :ohwell:
As you said, it's not enough to form a real opinion...0 -
I am American, and I can't eat fat food. I've never been able to. It just...disgusts me.
My prejudice is probably about fellow Americans. I've seen too many stupid ones!0 -
