Hi all,
Just a quick introduction.
Since an early age I've never been one to say no to chocolate or cakes, let alone Pizza and take aways. However I managed to keep myself very active through my younger days with Martial arts and sports. Up until the point of my motor bike accident in '97 I was hovering around the 13st mark which at 6' 1" is pretty slim. Although the accident had no long term effects, the excercise in the 6 months following too a big hit and lead to me quitting martial arts after 19 years. At 38 and married with 2 children, trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle is not an easy task. The weight gradually crept on up until the point where I hit 17st 3lbs back in November 2010. This was a big shock to me as I have never been one to keep any eye on the scale son a regular basis.
Something had to be done, so myself and the wife started weightwatchers. I then started running in Jan and built it up to an average of 15km a week. By April 2011 and in just 6 months I had lost 3st and was weighing in at 14st 3lbs. I decided then I didn't need to count the calories anymore or attend weighwatchers for £20 a month where I would just go to a church and wait in a queue for 45 minutes to be weighed. As expected the weigh started creeping on again. On Monday morning this week I weighed 15st. So I looked around and found this site. Hang on a minute it's everything that weight watchers offered and more but for free !!!!.
So on Monday 12th August 2012 I started my journey. I set the target to 2lbs a week and started running again. I don't have a goal weight in mind this time because I firmly believe that when I hit that goal weight I will then relax and the fat bloke inside will take over again.
Why do I put on weight and my mates don't?. I believe that it's not anything to do with Genes or hormones it's simply a mind game. I never grew out of my childhood attics or eating sweets & cakes. If you put me and 3 of my skinny mates in a room at 12:00 and we had all only eaten breakfast at 10:00, then you offered a chocolate snack to us, my mates would say "No thanks, I'm not hungry", Not Hungry? What does this mean I don't remember when my stomach rumbled last, is this hunger?. This is the problem my mind is not thinking in this way and doesn't only accept food when my stomach tells it it's hungry. This is why I think Diets do not work, yes you will loose weight but we don't need diets, we need lifestyle changes. I need to train my mind only to eat when it's hungry and what foods are best to eat. I think once I have achieved this, the fat bloke inside will be gone forever.
My journey is not just about weight loss, it's about training my mind.
