Expanding tummy but no weight gain...?

The strangest thing has been happening to me recently, I haven't been paying much attention to my weight as I have been traveling a lot and visiting friends BUT I haven't been putting any weight on at all, I figured this was because I must have just been eating at around maintenance level or something, I haven't been logging properly, abroad it's difficult.
My stomach flattened out relatively fast when I started my weight-loss journey but now it's back!! I would understand if my weight had gone up but it hasn't! its so strange! I was running a lot more when I started a few moths ago and am concentrating more on strength training now so I don't know if that has something to do with it. But how odd! I want to get rid of it again! I have stopped travelling for a while now so will be concentrating on logging more, maybe with extra weight loss my stomach will flatten again.
I have been drinking a lot of diet coke recently, could this have something to do with it? I'll try and cut it out for a week and see if it changes anything.
Sorry thinking out loud here.
Has this happened to anyone else?

There can be many reasons why this is happening.
The main cause is water retention. Check your sodium intake, if it has gone up you will retain water which will typically float around your belly.
The second main cause is muscle growth. Have you been doing alot of crunches and situps or other abs work? If you are building muscle under fat, you stomach will poof out due to more mass being there but still look flabby because fat sits ontop of muscle.0 -
Bloat from water and gas.
My (wonderful) husband can gain and lose 5 inches a day in his middle and not put on an ounce of weight. For him, the main culprits are fat content in food and beer because of issues he has with his guts. Yours may be set off by something different.
But think about the difference in what you ate traveling and what you eat at home. We have the opposite problem. When we visit family, my husband doubles in size because of what they serve.0 -
i just posted a similar thread.

i think mine 'may' be related to hormones, but it is very frustrating. i have no advice for you, but lots of empathy.0 -
Sodium can definitely play a role, as can the intake of soda. You said you're drinking a lot of Diet Coke. I know that would make me very bloated. Also, if you're not eating as "clean", it's possible that's part of it.0

You may just be bloated which would go away soon.
For me certain foods will cause it... diet pop never does for me (some people it does, some it doesn't affect). If I eat broccoli for example my stomach will puff out but I won't gain weight. Ensure you are drinking enough water and getting in enough healthy fats and fibre.0
