So just played Biggest Loser on Wii for first time. Now I understand why the real contestants are whining, lol. I put it on medium, did a 1/2 hr session of yoga with Bob and I'm dripping sweat. Walking never did this for me. Half way through the workout, I was thinking "I'm done!" And admit to cheating for a couple of poses, but got back to work. It says I only burned 40 calories, but I don't think it's right.
Anyone know where I can get an inexpensive calories burned gadget?

EDIT: So I just went ahead and plugged in Yoga as an exercise on MFP, and it came up with 137 calories. That seems a lot closer to the burn I feel. As my body is coming down off the workout, it's starting to feel like I finished a really good walk, and I burn around 200 cals on a walk like that. And then I went poking around online & found this site:
    http://www.caloriecontrol.org/healthy-weight-tool-kit/lighten-up-and-get-moving

I think it's helpful. You plug in your weight, the activity you did, and it calculates the calories you burned. Neato!

So now I think I'll go try Wii Fit Plus. I don't think I can handle Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum right after Bob rode me into town

trish and billie--nice work girls!!! i agree with nicolee--i always assume the scale's rt when it gives me the numbers i want to see.

trish--i use the reebok xrt heart rate monitor. includes a chest strap. bought it at buy.com for $29.99 and free shipping. have been using it several months and am very happy with it. when i started getting funky/erratic readings, it meant i needed a new battery. got the batt at walmart, put it in and off exercising again.
lots of ppl here recommend the polar brand--but they were way out of my price range.
final point--and please, i hope you don't take this the wrong way  --hrm's are sometimes not useful depending on your starting weight/size. at least that's what people have posted up on other threads. i don't know if it's a matter of not being able to make the chest strap fit or that the signal can't get thru the layers. so, you may want to ask around.

i'm a 34c and even still, the strap/receivers get funky sometimes and i have to adjust them b/c of my boobs--mashed up from sports bra. make sense?
so post up on the fitness board and see what other advice you get. there are a lot of knowledgeable ppl there.

congrats on taking on the fitness part of the healthy lifestyle! sounds like you're having lots of fun!:flowerforyou:

Thanks for your advice, stacey. Maybe I'll just stick to MFP's rough estimate for now. At least it gives me a few extra calories to eat. I just split an apple with my baby. Did you know apples actually burn fat cells? I read that the other day. It takes more energy to digest them than to eat them. Neat!
I am trying to get hubs to try Wii Fit Plus. It was a lot of fun. I really liked the boxing & kung fu. Burned another 100 cals doing it. And it seems pretty accurate in that aspect.
Hubby is on MFP, too, being "supportive" by logging what he eats, but he doesn't seem to care if he goes over his limit by 1,000 calories. I'd really like him to lose the "husband belly" I put on him these 8 years. Between the thinning hair and the gut, he looks way older than 34. He should be active and enjoying life, but he's tired all the time. I'm kind of concerned. He walks to and from the bus stop every day, so if he just stayed in his calorie limit he'd get into shape. He loves games, so I'm hoping he'll try Wii Fit.

Hello all! Trish, it sounds like the Wiifit is cool!

Stacey- How is everything going with you?

Shera-Cool! My husband actually sometimes goes to Eureka for work! It's a part of his territory. Maybe sometime the kids and I can join him and we could maybe meet up. I live about 3hrs from Eureka. I live not far north of Grants Pass in a little town called Myrtle Creek.

Happy Friday! Seems pretty quiet here today! Does anyone have any recommendations for inexpensive Christmas presents to make? Since I am not working now, the cash flow is extremely limited!

Pick up a Knifty Knitter hat loom set and make hats. It only takes 6 hours to turn out 1 adult hat, and 2 hours for a newborn size. Kid sizes are 4 hours. Put a movie on & you'll be half way through your kid's hat at the end of it :)
A couple different skeins of yarn, and you have, like, 10 gifts for under $20

Thanks Trish....my daughter actually has one of those and she has been making them...But that gives me the idea to motivate her to make stuff for Xmas too!

If you get the long looms, you can make blankets. I made my daughter's baby blanket using one. Took about 72 hours.

Hey that's cool! We are new to the area so that would be fun to meet up! I hung out with a lady the other day and we were joking w/ eachother because all we could think of to talk about was disney movies HAHA with little kids in the house its kind of funny.

we made gift baskets one year with things that we made. Biscotti, peanut brittle, cookies, and even made homemade wine and printed off some labels from home. The wine was "interesting" but drinkable LOL and it was a nice touch that we had actually made it ourselves.
We've also made couch throws with the polar fleece, you know the kind where you tie all the way around the edge? anyway, just a few ideas, i'm interested in what everyone else comes up with. I know I need to get on making stuff for this year again

I tried Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2010 on the Wii today. I thought Bob gave me an awesome workout yesterday on Biggest Loser Wii, but this Ultimatum 2010, was killer. I didn't even make it to the halfway through point before pooping out. First we "ran" for 5 mins, then we did like 100 jumping jacks, 60 twist crunches, and a whole bunch of butt bicycling on the wii board that I couldn't get the hang of. I shut it off, dripping sweat, and put Biggest Loser in... only to find that there was no training from Bob scheduled today. So in goes Wii Fit Plus. I wanted to beat some of hubby's scores from last night (he really liked the Yoga, yay!)
I was doing great with a routine I set up, until I got to the stupid obstacle course where it kept resetting me because I was getting too enthusiastic about "jumping". After about 4 times through the course, I was done... officially... at least until after dinner tonight, LOL.
I must sound like kind of a wimp :blushing:

Hello ladies! Happy Friday! I have really slacked off this week with eating. But at least I've been staying out of the kids' candy! It has been raining since Tuesday here because of Tropical Storm Ida, but it was much nicer today. I was able to walk to pick up the kids from school. Which is good since I had Wendy's for lunch. Does anyone have fun plans for the weekend? tomorrow is when I will take the kids to the Renaissance Festival. I will be eating horribly there too, but at least it is a large area, so I'll be walking a lot! I plan on posting more as of now. I've noticed that weeks I don't post, I don't do as well with my eating / exercise.

I'm going to try to get caught up with reading the older posts from this week.

    Have a great weekend! :flowerforyou:

I have really slacked off this week with eating. But at least I've been staying out of the kids' candy!

i feel your pain. (and thanks for the hugs, btw. i just don't do any of those group apps on fb). to some extent my eating has improved. but like last night--i went to town on the cookies and challah.

i know some of this is stress eating--i'm having trouble with my older girl's schoolwork/teacher. and i've spent more time on the computer and less exercising.
so it isn't a mystery why the wt is creeping up. :frown:

but it's been harder to get back on track...

anyway, amy i'm right therewith you in wanting to do better.
have fun at the Ren fest! we are going to see the air show which incl the Thunderbirds, who are based here at Nellis in Las Vegas. later---

Got a great recipe I want to share with you ladies.

We're having mojito lime chicken wraps. We usually have them on pitas, but I wanted to try flatout flat bread. I was looking to cut calories, so I made some modifications to the usual recipe. What I came up with was deliciousness & quality beyond what any restaurant could offer!

Trish's Mind-blowing Mojito Lime Chicken Wraps
(You can purchase all of the following at Walmart)

    2 flatout flatbreads
1 packet Wholly Guacamole 100 cal snack packs
    1/2 container pico de gallo
    2 cups shredded lettuce
    1/2 lb chicken breast
    1/2 red bell pepper
1 packet McCormick Grill Mates mojito lime season/marinade

Prepare mojito lime marinade as directed. Cut slits in chicken breast (to absorb dressing) and allow it to marinate for as long as possible (the longer, the better, but 30 mins will do ya if that's all the time you have). Grill the breast & chop it up. Julienne the bell pepper. Spread the guacamole across the 2 flatbreads (don't worry, the serving is quite generous). Pile on pico de gallo, lettuce, bell pepper, and chicken breast. Consume and be amazed at how fast you fill up!

Best of all... It's less than 600 calories for both of the massive wraps

i am so gonna feel that in the am.

tomorrow i do legs & back and abripper x. wish me luck with a cherry on top!

amy, looks like a perfect day at the Ren Festival. glad you had fun!

alright ladies--have a good night and let's report great news to each other tomorrow--

Trish - That recipe does sound yummy! Thanks for sharing!

Stacey - The air show sounds like fun! I'd love to see the Thunderbirds in person some day. Hope you have a great time!

The kids and I had so much fun at the Renaissance Festival today. Samantha got her hair braided, Will got a "pet dragon", and they both got to ride many rides, including a real camel! I think Samantha's 2nd favorite part was seeing Twig the Fairy. (Her first fav was the hair braiding.) Will wanted to go through the dungeon. DH was able to hang out with us during his lunch break, so he took Will through the dungeon. I don't think he liked it as much as he said he did. I walked all day, and I'm proud of myself for not pigging out while I was there. I'll post pics soon. I hope everyone had a great Saturday!

    Good night! :flowerforyou:

P90X, huh? Stace, I don't just wish you a cherry on top... I wish you the entire sundae! I hear that program is killer.

I feel great after doing a 1/2 hr with Bob on Wii BL, then cool down with Wii Fit +. I couldn't do the jumping jacks on BL though because my legs are still pretty tender/weak from working out yesterday.
Hubby is doing Yoga now. I'm so glad he's supporting me in this. He says the yoga on WF+ is very relaxing for him, which is great because he has a mentally straining job (computer training software programmer, has to meet deadlines for the military and comes home rattling off programming terms that sound like Chinese to me). After a smoking hot shower, I am relaxed and ready for bed.

Happy Sabbath, ladies! Take it easy and enjoy the day with your families :)

Just wanted to say hi to everyone, I've been lacking in the exercise dept this week and I had a few to many glasses of wine with friends but I havent gained  I've stayed the same so I'm back on track this week.
My husband actually laughed at me yesterday (a bunch). I have this food scale and decided I better use it and keep myself accountable and make sure I know EXACTLY what i'm eating. Well he came in the kitchen and i'm weighing my cheese for my sandwhich LOL I'm horrible and eyeballing a cheese serving. He thinks this is hilarious, then I grap a measuring cup and measure my grapes. He's dying..seriously thinks i've lost my marbles LOL   Says he can eyeball the grapes to, without my stinking measuring cup, grabs his serving and he comes up short LOL
To me, my food is much to important to waste so I want to eat ALL my grapes darn it. If I enter in a cup I want a CUP
He can loose weight just thinking about it, he has lost 15 lbs to my 5 but I just smile and know I can do this to (willpower don't fail me now)! Then last night he's complaining about wanting something sweet and salty.. okay sounds good but "no thank you". He then comes to the couch with ritz crackers, peanut butter and a hershey's candy bar. SMOTHERS the rits in peanutbutter then puts a chunk of candy bar on top....GROSS. Seriously he's putting atleast a tbs if not 2 of pb on this thing and i'm watching him so happy for myself that I don't want any. Before, I would have eaten half the ritz packet right there with him LOL
    happy sunday ladies,

oh drborkbork- I can't say enough for you getting on the wii and doing those exercises. I have the wii fit and haven't touched it in months. You've got me thinkng I should put mine to to good use. Keep up the good work, proud of you

    Good morning!

I guess I caught the last day of this thread so I will make this quick!

I have a handsome 29-month old son and a beautiful six week old girl. I just started working off the baby weight after getting the ok from my doctor (I had a c-section).

Bad night last night! My son and I have "dates" on Saturday nights where we watch a movie and eat a special treat, usually Sour Patch Kids. Last night we baked a batch of M&M cookies and I ate a TON. Seriously, I have like NO willpower whatsoever. I will definately be going for a run this morning!

trish, thanks! i've had to build up to p90x. when i first tried it, even after having been walking seriously for awhile, i cdn't do it at all.

then i eventually worked on kenpox (which is kickboxing) and then did the stretch a few times and just kept adding more dvd's over the course of a few months. i cdn't even do the core one, which was first in the program, until after i had done the ab one many many times.
dh, on the other hand, went from couch to p90x and stuck with the regimen the whole way--even on vacation. i was impressed.

i've put together a 13wk schedule using p90x and my leslie sansone pgm. let's see how i stick it out!

ok, off to get the girls from sunday school. hope you are all having a beautiful day!

So today marks 6 weeks until my baby girl starts going to nursery! (Think Sunday school for kids under 3). She's been a handful during church lately. I am very excited for this change. Hubby asked if I'm counting the days. I told him "Nope. I'm counting the HOURS". LOL
I have a great kid, but sometimes, y'know... just grrr
You've all been there, I'm sure.

Welcome, klouttit! This is a great bunch of ladies to be supported by.

Shera, I highly recommend giving your wii another shot. I've never met a gaming console that makes every muscle in my body sore, until now. Once upon a time, we all played video games to kick someone else's butt. Now they make games that kick YOUR butt, lol.
It's especially great for beginners like me, who've done little more exercise than walking, mucking stalls, and horseback riding.
Wii Biggest Loser & Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2010 are both definitely must haves if your Wii stands a chance of impressing you with a decent workout.

i'm so proud of myself! not b/c i did the back and legs---cuz i didn't and i'm not now. too late.

BUT i made a scrapbook for my grandma today!! now, i'm not a real scrapbooker. i just used pretty 12x12 paper from michael's and printed out loads of pictures onto regular paper (we have a color laser printer) and then cut and pasted and journaled my way thru it all. it's wrinkly and childish looking---but i'm just so glad i started and finished a project in one day! and i think my gma will really be happy to have it.

ok--sounds like we all did a lot of good things this week. yay us!! :flowerforyou:
