First time you stepped into a gym????

I was 16 years old, basketball tryouts were coming up and my dad was body building. So he took me with him to the gym on one of his PT sessions. He put me on the treadmill, gave me a Ripped Force Ice tea (remember those?) and blasted the music in my ear phones! One of my best memories EVER! What's your first time gym experience?

Was in high school, maybe a fresh or soph and was on a treadmill and totally out of my element as I hated anything to do with exercise. Stepped wrong and flew back off the treadmill.

Edited to add, this was pretty much me:

If you count Planet Fitness as a "gym".
I dont really remember what I did exactly but I ran and then bench and did some other machine stuff. kind of awkward the first time.

My first time in a real powerlifting gym was awesome. I was like a kid in a candy store and went nuts over all of the equipment.

High school football - summer of 82.. Weight room in an a portable building, no AC, summer, full of sweaty kids. Not the best experience:) Love my current YMCA however!

My first time at the gym was about a month ago! Before that I had never even dared step into a gym. When I went in I felt so out of my element, I didn't know how to use any of the machines. To top it off felt like everyone was staring at me.

I always have this irrational fear that I will fly off the treadmill.. lol

Thankfully I don't feel that way anymore.

That fall looks like it hurt!!

I remember one summer when I was 16, volleyball open gyms were held at a local gym instead of our high school because of floor resurfacing. I was amazed that a facility like that existed! I was even more amazed at how much people paid for it too... :ohwell:

I was at uni and my friend gave me a lift to the pool... which was closed. Rather than sit around and wait, I joined her gym class, and ended up joining the gym for the taebo class... when I signed up they gave me a basic weight training program, and I was hooked. 10 years later I met my husband at a gym in Turkey :)

I went to the small gym on campus, and I was on a bike. One of the girls on the elliptical got off, and I was going to get on because I wanted to try it out. I noticed she left her empty Gatorade bottle at the machine, so I was taking it over to the trash for her. She intercepted me at the trash, snatched the bottle out of my hands and shouted "This is MINE!" All I could think is why is she so protective over trash?

I'd have casually walked out, never to return....

My first time I was with a friend who lifts 5lb dumbbells once a week so she doesn't get bulky. I go alone now.

I was about 15 and my sister wanted me to join her at the gym for yoga classes. We ended up only going a few times over the span of 2 months. I didn't understand how important it was to be fit and healthy, so I didn't take it seriously.

14 years later, I FINALLY know why it's important! :blushing:

I had a friend like that. I wanted to punch her in the lady *kitten*. Especially because she was starving herself at the same time, so to think that you could get bulky by only eating 600 calories a day is ridiculous.

12 years old for summer football lifting sessions.

Squats, cleans, bench press, shoulder press and lat pulldowns were our main focus.

I joined a gym in high school (20 years ago) and have been a gym member off and on over the years. I just recently joined a traditional gym and so far I'm liking it.

12 years old or so - my parents were "champion" level Stairmaster users (seriously - the gym they went to actually let you track your progress and I remember pictures of them with "champion" t-shirts for hitting something like 100,000 floors' worth) and wanted me to lose a few pounds.

I learned that I hate Stairmasters. And rowing machines. And pretty much any sort of long duration aerobic exercise.

9th grade I signed up for "Circuit training" because I was bullied and didn't want to participate in any group or team activities but had to take a phys ed class as was required by my state.

I showed up the first day and I was the only girl! Most of the students were on the football team. It was a good experience because I learned how to lift like a man and just skipped over all the girly jazzercise classes. By the end of that school year, I had quads and glutes that would make a grown man cry. ;-)
