My husband just bought me a SX universal combo ECG Heart rate monitor for my birthday, I just tried it out while doing week 1 ripped in 30. I have never used one before so I dont know if i did something wrong or if it is right.
It said in 24 minutes i only burned 176 calories.. And i gave it my all and was sweating like crazy!
is there a certain way to wear it? Should I have tried wearing the chest strap?
Has anyone used this type of monitor before, I feel lost.
Thank you

Were you able to program the HRM with your current weight and height? It bases your calories burned from your heart rate, weight and height, not necessarily your effort. I was surprised when I saw my calorie burn estimation for the first time using a heart rate monitor. I've also seen a trend over the 30 lbs I've lost so far. It takes a lot more high intensity workouts to burn what I used to 30 lbs ago!
Also, HRM are more accurate if you have a chest strap, so if you weren't using that your counts could be off. I use the chest strap right below my sports bra so the fabric doesn't interfere.
I heard on a podcast this morning that it's possible to burn 8-10 calories per minute if you're going really hard and you're an athlete. Honestly, it's probably accurate but you'll know more if you try it with the chest strap. Good luck!0 -
Sounds about right if it's a strength training workout and light on the cardio. It'll be more accurate with the chest strap, but when I do sculpt and tone workouts I sweat and feel like a wet noodle after, but they really don't burn a ton.0

I've never done Ripped in 30, but I have done 30 Day Shred. I was very surprised to see that even when giving full effort and sweating my a** off I only burn between 175-200 calories. I think these videos do more toning than calorie and weight loss. I haven't finished the video, but what I see a lot of people say about Ripped in 30 and 30DS is that they don't really lose weight, but drop a good number of inches. Not sure if this answers your question, but I think you burn the most calories doing cardio activities.0

I had to program my HRM according to my age, weight and height. During my W1 of RI30 the lowest amount of calories I burned was 489. Last night was D1W2 and I burned 607 calories. I was sweating so bad, I had to wipe up the floor when I was done.0

That sounds about right.0
