Hello! My name is Tara and I live in Washington state. I had gastric bypass 6 years ago (before you get all mad about it, I want you all to know I worked out 5 times a week, ate fish & veggies, and at 22, I had high cholesterol, blood pressure AND type 2 diabetes. I actually was cured of ALL of those health problems and still am, YAY!!!!), and have noticed the weight creeping back up. I'd like to blame it on being in poverty (let's face it, Cup O Noodles is cheaper than chicken), but I also can be pretty lazy.
My boyfriend and I have started a quest to discover all the amazing trails up here and be more active, and I've started a yoga DVD. I am hoping that I can lose the 40 pounds I've gained and then some! Here's hoping!

Good luck! And knowing what I know about gastric bypass I don't think of it as "cheating" anymore. It changes your life and you deal with a lot of digestive issues that are permanent as a result. And it still requires the patient undergo a lifestyle change, just like us who lost weight the traditional way! Now is the time to make a permanent change! Most ppl I know who have undergone gastric bypass ended up gaining a good part of the weight back but you're catching it early and doing something about it! Good job!!0

You do not need to apologize for gastic bypass surgery, regardless of your age....at least that is my opinion. Yes, healthy food is more expensive than junk food, but you know that it is not that hard to eat very healthy on a small budget. I am also on a tight budget, and manage to make fantastic (homemade) turkey burgers, etc. Remember all the health issues you had before as an incentive to get back on track. It sounds like you have had a "wake up" call again. I eat super healthy on a lean budget....get creative, and you will manage to have fun with your results in the kitchen and your weigh scale! Thank you so much for the encouragement! I have to stop being lazy and get some exercise. I can't afford a gym membership but I live in a really hilly area so it kicks some butt!!!! I am definitely trying to avoid getting type 2 diabetes again. Do you have a good web site for any healthy and low calorie recipes?

A lot of people get offended and think I was just lazy when I had gastric bypass. But I really made the right choice. My dad just had a 5 way heart bypass surgery shortly before I had my surgery so I said uh, okay, time to get serious!!! My surgeon recommended a high protein/low carb diet, which is what I've been trying to do. I am addicted to salads, and try to incorporate more veggies into them. But I get bored!!!! I love to cook but sometimes, it's just plain boring!
