I just wanted to say a big thank you to MFP and to everyone on here :)

Stepping on the scales this morning and I'm 0.8kg off my preliminary goal (thinking of altering it now seeing as I've been successful) of an 8kg loss. I know a lot of people on here have been successful with a much greater loss, and I very much admire and respect that, but for me - this is my goal.

I'm 21 and my weight has crept up over the past year and a half and was just out of control basically. I was always thin and fit when I was younger, and was in pretty much denial - I'm short and generally small, and I don't think I looked like I weighed what I did! I tried dieting myself and calorie counting but it was hard and I didn't last more than a few days as I wasn't really doing it right. I don't remember the last time I tried on clothes in a store due to my embarrassment (I'm still a bit unsure about when I will face up the courage to doing this, but hopefully soon).

THEN I randomly stumbled upon MFP and thought why not. And I am SO grateful! It has made possible what I thought was just a dead end. My self esteem was getting lower and lower, and the weight gain was panicking me as I just couldn't seem to shake it. But thanks to all the great support and education on here, I've managed to lose almost all the weight I wanted to in such a healthy way. Yes I am eating less, but I am eating BETTER. I am exercising more. I am doing more strength training, which I never really did before. I am watching the macro's of what I eat (not totally clean eating or anything, just trying to minimize the crap) and keeping an eye on sodium and water. I try to eat high protein snacks so I keep fuller for longer.

And I still eat what I want to, in moderation. For example, going out tonight and there is a chocolate sundae I've been wanting to try the last 3 times I went to the restaurant but didn't. Today, I think I am going to have one (half of one - split it with my brother) and that is okay. I will not make myself feel terrible. However, I will plan out the rest of my dinner and meals for the day in advance, and exercise to compensate. Because I'm not going to miss out on the things I want to eat completely as that is not sustainable to me. Again, I understand there are people on here who manage to completely cut out all the crap and I take my hat off to you, but so far for me that isn't really practical. But I'm minimizing, and I'm eating less crap, and eating in moderation.

Yesterday, I saw bread that I would've had 2 - 4 slices of with peanut butter as a snack, and saw there were over 400Cal per 2 slices!!!!! I couldn't believe it!!!! I am making much better, healthier choices now, but still enjoying food and my life. I am getting fitter, getting stronger, getting more toned, and I am really really enjoying the journey. Because that's what it's all about.

ANYWAY.

Sorry for rambling on so much, I'm just feeling really happy. And really grateful.

So to everyone here on MFP, THANK YOU. For your support, for your education, for everything. For making what seems impossible, possible.

:)

Great post! That's what MFP is all about isn't it - learing new ways of doing things. Cuz let's be honest - the way we were doing things before were not working! lol I thought I was making a healthy choice at Tim Horton's by choosing the wheat and carrot muffin. Turns out it is one of the worst choices on the menu!

Glad things have worked out so well for you - keep it up!

    Cheers!:drinker:
