So---Is this weird? Dealing with Temptation ;/

I am trying to go raw--eat mainly raw foods---but with my protein cooked. I am also trying sooooooooooo hard to abstain from
sugar, white flour, fried etc.
Really trying to wean my self from that stuff--once I do
it does not even taste good.:noway:
But the point of trying and being there is far and wide.
When I am out---I get tempted by all the name fast food places. But I am also a cafe junkie. I love cafes---and often order the lattes and a pastry. Last night I was in little Korea--and there is this new awesome cafe--where some of the pastries are baked or fried as lightly sugar coated buns and stuffed with ---curry--tuna---creamed corn---etc.
I bought hot chocolate---and three of the buns---plus a small brownie cup cake and a sweet potato ball.about 2inches diameter
I know I know!
But here's what I DID. I took maybe four sips of the hot choc--about 1/4 of it---and then two bites of the brownie
and ate half of the sweet potato ball--excluding the filling. ----then threw the remainder in the trash
And took home the buns.
Today I pinched a tiny piece off each of the three buns, barely tasted the fillings--- and then--tossed THOSE in the trash.
So essentially--all those purchases--boiled down to small tastings. I thought--you know---perhaps that's one way to handle food craving and slowly wean off the bad stuff? I know there are raw desserts--or healthier---but sometimes--chocolate is as ONLY chocolate does.
Any health-nuts please friend me!

I am not a health nut from the raw standpoint. I am trying to tailor this quest to not just the temporary "diet to lose weight". I like sweets now and then, so if I am craving it, I work it into my calories for the day. I would hate to think this way of living could not include things I enjoy ... too restrictive, I would cave and eat everything on your list at one time :-/...
I think you did well! Weaning yourself off by slowly changing your habits would give you a better chance of it becoming a lifestyle change. Great job! (It all sounded so yummy, btw!)0 -
I'm a big fan of not depriving yourself - you will end up bingeing if you do. So all things in moderation. Build the treats into your daily diet by pre-logging your food (hit your protein and fat first, then see what you have left to work with and toss in a cookie or two...or five...whatever).0

That seems like such a waste of money. ;_; Split it with a friend!0

If I go too long without giving into my cravings, I tend to binge eat and end up feeling like crap afterwards. I have to give into my cravings (by working them into my daily calories), otherwise I will go stark mad. Not kidding. I get to the point where I can't focus on anything else.
I think it's ok to give in a little bit, as long as you're doing everything else right and consistently.0 -
If you are trying to go raw....it's obviously difficult for you to do if you're buying pastries and such.
Are you sure that's what you're wanting to do?0 -
I think it seems like a waste of food, honestly. Maybe take some bites and save the rest for later, instead of throwing it out?0

Thank you---this is so helpful!
I am going to take the suggestions of including a sweet or two in daily food---and figure in calories---with the idea of weaning away. My vision is dessert only through fruit---but I guess --I am further away from that goal than I thought
I see now through the feedback--that trying to force an abstinence led me to controlled binging.
Buying 5 pastries and a sugary drink--in one sitting---then throwing it away---comes down to--an attempt at controlled binging.
So glad people brought up that word---so I could come out of denial.0 -

Raw foods is not actually abstaining from sweets--that was my decision---but you can go raw and eat desserts.
There is a brand of raw granola bars--which I did eat in my first months of going raw to help wean me off sweets and it worked.
I will go back to those. Then eventually there all kinds of cool things to do with fruit---that can help the sweet-tooth.
Frozen banana custard...young coconut pudding....watermelon-mint-lemon slush--etc0 -

I agree about wasting---I don't feel great about it.. After reading the feedback,though--and identifying what that was ---a binge waiting to happen ....I am glad it got thrown away, rather than justifying or rationalizing--consuming all of that---in order
" not to waste it"
How many times have I eaten my way into that--excuse.
And I'd feel weird giving my left-overs--to -say a homeless person--sharing even a friend.
I guess that part of it--is what it is.
But now---I can do differently!0 -

THANK YOU FOR THE BINGE WARNING.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..
THAT'S what was happening----the title of this thread REALLY should be---ON THE VERGE OF A BINGE
and I was feeling out of control and scared--which was why I tried to get rid of the sugar---fast.
Totally going to do the pre-logging food.
How do you do that?0 -

Exactly---THANK YOU---for the wisdom.
I could see that was going to happen---where I'd hate myself. Work a sweet into daily cal---WILL DO.0
