Hip bursitis, no cardio very discouraged

Hey all. So after stupidly running through pain in my hip and IT band for several months I've finally really hurt myself and have a raging case of bursitis. I can barely walk up steps or sleep at night let alone do any sort of cardio. I'm in PT and they're telling me at least 3months of rest (I'm still doing upper body strength) and then I'll need to fix my gait if I ever want to successfully run without developing it again.

I'm terrified of gaining weight and losing all of my hard work. Does anyone have any advice?

Appreciate it!

Scared of weight gain -> Don't stuff your face

Scared of losing your cardio abilities -> Life is a marathon not a sprint.

Aw, bursitis sucks! My dad has had it off and on in various joints and was in a lot of pain.

My first bit of advise is to listen to your PT, but also work with them and ask questions on what you can and can't do.

Ask if you can do any sort of pool exercises where the water can support your body and lessen impact on joints, if you have access to a pool, of course.

If you have no problems with upper body, then how about shadow boxing? Just punching the air at a fast clip can get your heart rate up.

Good Luck and here's hoping for a quick recovery! :drinker:
