I was looking into getting a heart rate monitor but I am not too crazy about the chest strap idea. Does anybody have a HRM without a chest strap and like it? If so, what brand and cost if possible??????

I started with a watch-only model and quickly realized why everyone goes with the chest strap.
You have to touch the face of the watch to take a heart rate reading, and the more it gets your heart rate the more accurate it will be...which means you need to touch the dang watch all the dang time during your workout, and it doesn't always read right away, which results in trying again, possibly slowing down or stopping whatever activity you're doing....pain in the butt!
After about a month I bought one with a chest strap and like it so much better! Hit start and that's it - you do your workout and the strap monitors your heart rate the whole time - pausing to touch the watch, no worries if you're doing it often enough for it to get even close to an accurate reading.
I could have saved myself some money if I'd just gone with the chest strap model in the first place. My watch-only model was a New Balance HRT Fit, my new one is a New Balance N4. Got the HRT on clearance from Target for $28, got my N4 on eBay (brand new) for $26! :laugh:0 -
