Stupid Infection

So, I have a sinus infection. Not a huge deal, but it's giving me the worse headache. Needless to say, I couldn't force myself into the gym today or have the energy to do a workout DVD at home. No exercise at all. I stayed within my calories for the day, but I'm so depressed about it. I don't know that I'll be able to work out for a few days. I'm worried, because exercising helps curb my need to snack and now I don't have a distraction...

moonport...I have been sick with the flu for too long now! I don't have an infection but it is taking forever to get over the cough and tiredness. I too, just cannot quite make it to the gym. Heck, I am still trying to just get through all of my basic responsiblities of the day, let alone the gym!

Take care of yourself lest you get more sick.

It is hard...trust me I do know. This has been the most frustrating two weeks since I have started MFP. Along with that I have been under a lot of stress with some family and life issues...and excercise is how I deal with it.

I have gone over my daily calories by about 200-300 calories for the past 5 days and I am cringing at the thought of the scale. I am trying...I am just really hungry. Today I started to wonder if our bodies need a little extra to cope with illness and convalesance.

Sorry that I have no great advice. I have been trying to do some of the bare bone basics of some stretches and calisthenics. Maybe you could try that too, just nothing too strenuous that will zap your energy, but just enough to keep the muscles moving.

    Take care!:flowerforyou:

I hear you!! I just started to come down with a cold this week and instead of not wanting to eat, it has been the opposite. I didn't exercise today because I spent the majority of the day laying low and napping. I thought you were generally supposed to lose your appetite when you are sick?

I'm sick at the moment,I didn;t think I could but managed to do exercise.

Take some painkillers for the aches about 30 mins before excrcise, lots of water and vitamin c:smile:

You should be able to at least manage a walk after that:smile:

I'm definitely going to try to exercise tomorrow!! It is really important to me. I hope all of us make a speedy recovery so that we can continue on our journey healthy and cold free

I hear you also!!! I've been down and out with a cold for 5 days. I had programmed MFP for a 500 calorie deficit (trying to lose a pound a week) and the first day with this sinus infection I knew that wasn't going to hold, so I've been eating pretty much maintenance calories or a little above. One, I figure my body needs the calories to fight off the infection and there's no sense in prolonging this thing. Two, it makes me feel better to eat even if I can't taste it (hot soup is my preference when I have this sinus stuff).

So this I say to myself as much to you, "don't worry about what the scale says, don't worry if you ate a little more while you were sick, main thing is to let your body fully recovery and then just start back into the exercise and diet, ease back into both the exercise and diet so you don't have a relapse, and press on towards your goals." There I said it ... is it helping? Maybe I need to say it to myself again ... anyway you get the point.

  • Yes I have the flu because I spent half an hour on the elliptical machine
in my student gym right next to the window which was blasting gusts of cold wind,
I just wasn't thinking,I was too concerned about the happy buzz the exercise was giving me,
at times like these I also feel too lousy to exercise, and I won't push myself too much,
I just eat loads of oranges and pray for a quick recovery.
