I never did understand womens sizing. I hear some people talk about misses and youth etc sizing when it comes to womens clothes depending if it's a odd or even number?

This is my pants information:
24 inch waist
37 inch butt

I usually fit into these options:
27, 28 29 (these sizes seem to always go up by 1s) or
A 5, 7 or 9 (these sizes seem to always go up by 2s) or
A 6 or 8 (these sizes seem to always go up by 2s)
Recently I bought a size 1...

So I am assuming the sizing on each line is a different standard of sizing..
How do I know which sizing chart they are going by based on the numbers
What sizing rage is what (is odd numbers misses or is it even, where in the world are those standards used and what are the other sizes called)
is there a chart online someone can point out that shows that that size 1 is equiv to about a size 5 is equiv to about a size...etc?
What range do each of these sizing groups include? Shopping online is getting confusing.

If you are shopping online, look at the manufacturer's sizing chart. It should tell you the measurements for each size. As for even/odd, odd is generally juniors sizing, even misses.

Odd numbers are usually junionrs. Even numbers are womens/misses sizes. Every manufacturer is different though, so a 6 in one designer may be a 8 or a 4 in another.

This. I made this mistake when ordering my bridesmaid dress online. I'm petite, and usually can wear a XS or S in Misses. If I had measured myself before ordering, I would have known I wasn't a XS or even an S. I ended up exchanging to a "fits like a glove" Medium.

Odd numbers are juniors; even numbers will cover "adult" sizes including petite, misses, and women's/plus. The cuts on these clothes can be dramatically different, so it can be important to note which you're getting. Juniors sizes tend to be cut narrower due to the body shape of the intended wearer (a 14 year old girl's body is very different from a 30 year old woman's) and the proportions are different.

Formal clothing tends to run smaller.

I have heard that some designers are "vanity sizing" their clothing - labeling something that is really say a size 10, as a size 8 or 6. Supposedly it encourages you to buy more. I don't think that it has caught on in the formal clothing lines just yet.

Juniors sizes are cut quite a bit smaller that misses sizing too. Often "women's" refers to plus sizes. For instance, a 16 in misses is different from a 16W which is cut more generously, and a 15 in junior's might seem comparable but is cut differently and smaller than the misses.

It's crazy how much sizes change due to vanity sizing. I think it's not a bad marketing ploy, really; I've known women who will buy five pairs of the same jeans because the size is smaller. But I think there's just no pressure to do it for formal clothes. Someone who wants a wedding dress is going to buy it regardless of the size and it's not like they're going to stock up if the number is lower! So why change it?

I think you've got your answer, but I just wanted to add that junior's clothing is cut competely differently, not just "smaller". I can't shop in the junior's department because the clothes just do not fit my proportions correctly. Going up a size wouldn't make it fit. Junior's is geared towards adolescents who tend to have narrower hips and less defined waists. The rise in pants is often lower, which means (for me at least) that my butt cheeks will try to peek out of the top of the jeans, which really isn't an attactive look.

You just have to try on clothes until you find what fits you best. As PP's have said, different brands fit differently, and you might wear a size 6 at one store and a 10 at another.

If its juniors you would figure 1 would be smaller then 5? And I'm 5'7 and they are incredibly long on me

Who ever came up with juniors/misses/womens sizing is an *kitten*!!!

We should be able to shop for jeans and pants the same way men do!! Mens jeans and pants go by inches in the waist and inseam. No guess work! Measure your inches and look for the inch size jeans/pants on the rack. Get rid of the "size Zero" stuff that gives us all a complex of feeling fat if we're bigger than that and brings on eating disorders! Ugh! I hate it! I have jeans I can wear that are a 6 and others that are a 13!? Seriously?.... Makes it hard to shop first of all and if I'm in the juniors dept I ALSO feel fat! grrrr
