Fitness Tracker vs Polar FT80

Hi everyone so I just used my new Polar FT80 for squash and it reported that I have burned 759 Calories where as mfp said I burned 1117. A huge descrepancy. I knew that it was over estimating and as such I was halving my time so if I did 40 minutes i would log 20 which was vastly underestimating but it was much safer than logging the full estimate.

Anyway this isn't meant as a dig I love MFP but just be aware that when you are logging calories using the fitnes tracker that they will be incorrect and that until you invest in a decent heart reate monitor you should halve the time that you log for your excercise.

I have the Polar FT60, and have found that the fitness tracker will over estimate SOME items while under estimating others. For example, because my runs have inclines, the speed and time entered will under estimate calories burned by about 70%. Another examples is doing push-ups. If I have high levels of adrenaline from my run, I will crank out push-ups at an alarming rate. In this case, the fitness tracker is only under estimating by 90%. On days I try to do push-ups before my run, let us call this the pace most people would try to do push-ups, MFP over estimates by about 200%.

    Hope this helps :)

And on another note, when doing strength training the Kcals burned also come from consuming ATP. The HRM will only calculate Kcals from VO2...
  • Thanks It does Help, again not having a dig at MFP if you dont have a hrm it is certainly better than guessing no?
