Help needed....training for a 10k in 2 months

I am not a runny by any means. I am a part of the couch to 5k program and i will get that started. but since i have time this weekend i was wondering...

do i walk the 10k distance today...to get my base line of how long it is and how slow i tend to walk it and what my stamina is

or

do i just start the couch to 5k training to ease into the running?
