I just need to have a little vent somewhere.
I am so tired of businesses charging a fortune for a service they don't bother to provide! I have had no end of issues with my letting agents for six weeks simply trying to get a washing machine repaired. This farce includes sending someone out who didn't even look at it, but when followed his advice ripped up more of our clothing, refusing to allow us a new one because there's "nothing wrong with it" (because it really benefits us to lie so that we can have a new washing machine if there's nothing wrong with the old one?), eventually sending a new one and cancelling the order FOUR times because they "didn't know" it was fitted, "didn't know" it had a wooden door front, "didn't know" which one to send. You are the letting agents, this is your JOB! Anyway, finally sorted this out and we received a letter asking us to renew, which we agreed pending the rent review. We've been chasing a rent review for weeks with no response. Now about a month ago, the landlady asked if she could visit which we agreed to (having literally JUST come back from holiday) and she arrived with "her friend". We thought nothing of this until we received a call from "her friend" yesterday telling us he is the new letting agent and we have five weeks to get out. No one bothered to tell us, including the landlord when she turned up with her new letting agent! She then went on to avoid our calls, emails and those of our current letting agent. She's now putting this flat up for an additional £250 a month (a price it is NOT worth, it's a Deptford post code for crying out loud).
Following on from this, I have waited in all day today, when I could be with my boyfriend in Kent, I could be earning money doing overtime, I could be searching for flats - as I am waiting for tickets I paid £160 for, for an event in the not too distant future. I've already been told if we don't receive these they don't have ability to send duplicates. So I've waited in all day, no TV, no music, not showering so I can hear the buzzer... No buzzer, just a little flash on my screen saying they 'tried' to deliver it and were unable so they've left a card. Of course, no card has been left. You can't call them to demand they turn around immediately and deliver it. Basically, there's nothing I can do. I can't take any time of work, you can't visit the depot personally...
I am just EXHAUSTED by day to day battling with everything.

you are so magnanimous.0 -
Thanks :-) I also have a hangover ('cause my response to the news yesterday was to get drunk).
But I did book a birthday trip to Venice so I shouldn't complain.0 -
Keep records. This is what landlord-tenant laws are for.0

Hmm, I've checked it out and they only need to give 4 weeks' notice.
In addition, the new managing agent (who I was considering complaining about) isn't part of any dispute resolution service (which, to me, just stinks of a bad company).
Thankfully DX, the ticket company, has not only had an email full of my disgust with their service, but I believe they ARE part of an arbitration service.0 -
if you're in the uk they have to give you 2 months *written* notice to get out (verbal doesn't count neither does them claiming they sent it but you didn't recieve it). That's a statutory entitlement which overrides anything they may have put in a contract. Any problems contact shelter, your local council or the citizens advice bureau for advice.
Also they should have given you details of which deposit protection scheme they have put your deposit in. If they haven't then they are in breach of the law and you may get not only your deposit but extra back which may help if you need a deposit for your next property. I would also tell them you want to be reimbursed for any clothes their washing machine ruined.
Letting laws in this country are designed to screw over tenants. We got notice end of november last year with 2 small children - everywhere shuts down over xmas so finding another property was a nightmare.0 -
I read it was one month... But thank you, I will check that out on Monday morning. The thing is that, as I said, the landlord has swapped managing agent, so our letting agent found out the same time we did (with a back dated letter - words can not express my hatred of these people). And this new letting agent is not part of either Property Ombudsman or Ombudsman Services for Property so no idea what we'd be able to do against them...? Any ideas?
The deposit is in a scheme, thankfully, but we are going to complain about the clothes & inconvenience.
That's rubbish. I assume you found somewhere! So stressful, isn't it? Plus rent has gone up so ridiculously, we can basically never have any expendable cash, live in a shoe box or move to Peckham. Urgh.0
