weight loss for shorties

Hello, I am below average height (about 5'0.5) and even when I am not restricting I don't eat much more than 1,000 calories a day. So I am wondering if anyone could recommend some good advice or pointers for me and anyone else who is small and having difficulties.

Im 4"10.5 and I know the feeling! To lose weight we have to eat less and work out harder! There is not an easy solution but to keep at it. And people that are average height or taller really have nothing to complain about they get to eat more than us im jealous! good luck!0

I'm 5'2 and I would murder somebody if I had to eat 1000 calories. I am highly irritated at 1500. The other day the bunny in my front yard was almost a goner. I do have a lot of muscle mass.0

I am 5'0 and feel like crap on 1400 a day. I feel much better at 1600 and lose just fine that way. Maybe you've just depressed your metabolism by eating so little.0

I may have developed some bad habits in highschool about eating, but that was two years ago (I never ate breakfast or lunch because my mom wouldn't sign me up for free lunch) but like I said that was two years ago. I eat pretty regularly and am naturally energetic and active... Already being slim, I mostly want to tone up! I weight 93 lbs but I want a 20 inch waist to go with it (it's 22 right now). My boyfriend says I have a poochie tummy0

hi, Im 5'2" and now eat about 1400 calories, no telling how many calories I had before, not counting the gin and tonics hummmm. Also after you hit 50 yr old, wow you really start packing on the pounds. My new experience to weight loss is not to deprive yourself of the foods you love, but rather alter the recipes. I hardly eat white foods any more, and eat leaner meats. also I eat 3 nice size meals, trying to include veggies (few calories and good for you too lol) and 3-4 snacks under 200 calories. I still bake a cake, and eat it too for a snack, this has been working for me. Also started exercising 3-4 times a week. Started with 12 min. video now do about 36-42 min. sometimes do the walk a mile video. Lost 15 3/4 inches, time for a new pic lol. Hope this helps some. Emily0

Yeah, after you hit a certain age your body can go either way really, both of my grandmothers are pretty much polar opposites, one side being the tiny tiny old lady, the other becoming gracefully voluptuous, but she was always more generous in figure from the pictures I've seen. My own mother is nearing 48 now, and she is starting to gain weight, but she stopped working about a year ago (she used to work a steady 12 hours a day with very few breaks and every other sunday off) and she quit smoking so she went from 110 to 120 (she is 5'7 though!!) and she's a little self conscious, but I feel very lucky that she is my mother. She looks wonderful even though she has taken pretty awful care of herself, so I bet if I take care of myself then... I don't even know what! My mom still gets mistaken for being in her late twenties, so perhaps I can be that lucky too
My boyfriend is <i>super</i> rude but... he pays for it. He isn't mean to me about my weight or anything, he likes it, he just doesn't think I'm skinny. He has never told me to lose weight, and I wouldn't mind gaining a bit I suppose as long as it was muscle mass. If I gained 17 lbs I'd be able to donate plasma! But 88 lbs sounds like a good weight to me, for my size... idk.0 -

Doesn't sound like a weight problem. It sounds like a crazy boyfriend problem. If he thinks your tummy is "poochie", he needs to go find someone else to verbally abuse.
I'm sorry, but the guy sounds like a dirtbag. What, your belly pokes out when you sit down? IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO THAT. Why the hell do you tolerate that kind of baloney?
88 lbs puts you at a 17 on the BMI scale, which is UNDERWEIGHT. Listen to me very, very carefully. Your kidneys will stop functioning properly. Your body will hang on to food, leaving you bloated. You'll get headaches out of the blue. Your vision accuracy and small motor functions will suffer. You will likely lose your period.
Why abuse your body like that? A body that's carried you since birth. The same body that pulls you out of bed every morning, the same body that works so damn hard for you.
Look, I GET IT. I'm 5'1 at 110 right now. Being short is hard. Being short and chesty is harder...I've got a D cup and they make me feel pudgy all the time. I've got muscular calves from running...I read that as fat, some days. It's hard to really love yourself when what you see in the mirror is at odds with what all the models look like.
But you are headed down an unsafe road. You are making unsafe choices. Your "rude" boyfriend sounds like a manifestation of your own self loathing...maybe you need him to tell you that you are fat so you can continue this dangerous cycle. I don't know.
I want EVERY SINGLE person reading this to understand...if you are in a "healthy" weight range according to the BMI scale, any further weight you lose should be "vanity" lbs and nothing more. They are not "pudgy" pounds. They are five or ten pounds that you want to lose because you know you can cut more sugar/fat out of our diet, or to give you a bikini boost. Those pounds should never toss you into the "underweight" portion of the BMI.0 -
You're already underweight...I think you need to be heading in the other direction. At 5', your target weight range is 94.7 - 128.0 lbs.0
