If you haven't watched the fight LEAVE THIS THREAD NOW, unless you want to know the results.
Ronda Rousey is a beast with the Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. I am no martial artist. But I watch SF and UFC when I can, I've also watched plenty of olympic JJ over the past 4 plus years. I must say, she's extremely good.
Although I do believe that it's as much a matter of not having any full time competition as it is her abilities.
I'll explain.
Ronda Rousey trains like the male fighters train, I.E. every day, for a few hours, living the life of a fighter. That's fine, and good for her being able to support that life. But most of the other women who fight don't, they train 3 to 4 times a week, for 2 hours a day or when their real jobs permit. The fact that she trained in her main discipline for the last 8 plus years gives her what amounts to an unfair advantage.
I liken it to American football (because I know american football very well having played it through college).
Even the best College senior team given their existing training schedule and skill set (assuming this team was all allstars and had months together to gell) would lose to a team of 2nd year professional football players 9 times out of 10.
why? Because they don't get to focus on nothing but football, where as the pro's, even ones close to their age (thus 2nd year team) have had almost 2 years to focus on nothing but football and been able to practice against players who are the best at what they do.
Rousey trains with male professional fighters and some of the best trainers in the world at MMA. Now I don't begrudge her this, it's great that she can do it. But until other women can do the same thing, there'll be no contest. She capitalizes on the fact that females don't strike hard enough to put her down before she can get in close to use her (admittedly outstanding) close in BJJ style.
Until you find a woman who has good judo skills but has been classically trained in TaeKwonDo, I don't think anyone will beat her. Plus that woman would need to train like her, against larger male opponents who fight with BJJ or Judo FULL TIME.
Why TKD you ask? Because she's a hard charger, I submit that her defense during these charges is relatively weak, and she's susceptible to a solid front kick during her bull rush (she always does this, every fight). This kind of kick, while rarely a solid impact because no intelligent male fighter starts a fight with a hard rush, is devastating, you can break ribs, which would make an arm bar effectively unattainable unless you have an extraordinary amount of pain tolerance (broken ribs can black out even the toughest fighter). Arm bars rely on leverage and holding the arm to the chest to gain a negative resistance against the elbow, and if you've ever broken a rib, you know you can't lie on the ground and raise your hips with one, the pain becomes intolerable in a few seconds, and DOES NOT go away, it just gets worse until you pass out.
So that's how I think her end will eventually come, not for a while though, not until some more women take this on as a full time gig, or you get another former Olympian, or someone who has trained as hard, for as long as an Olympian does.
Thoughts? Am I full of crap here?

i did! it was great. lots of the top girls train full time though, julie, miesha and sarah all do.
there are other olympic medalists in the female mma world. sara mcmann for one.
I don't htink tkd is the art that will be her. it's to flashy and not powerful enough(yes, yes i know some tkd techniques are quite good, but if you take a tkd person, and a muay thai person and have them kick something, the muay thai person will do more damage 99% of the time).
Ronda actually came out swinging with good punches against sarah last night. and sarah didn't throw a single thing, even though boxing is her strength.
It will be someone with really really really good wrestling(or judo), and muay thai that will beat her, or someone with better jiu jitsu, who can actually defend an armbar and even counter it. Meisha didn't do a bad job on the ground against her, even taking her back momentarily, which exposed a way for her to be beat.
Ronda isn't a beast with BJJ she's a beast with Judo! she has been training some bjj in the last year or so, but those arm bars are alllll judo.
Germaine's kickboxing mixed with alexis's jiu jitsu and sara's wrestling would probably do the job lol0 -

see, all things I didn't know. Hmm, I think she's a psycho anyway. But her body is insane, I'll give her that. I know she was judo. I'm the first to admit, I know as much about fighting techniques as I do about croquette (which is nothing). But I didn't know Tate trained full time, I coulda swore she had a job outside the ring, but I could be wrong.
I'm cool with u saying mui-thai over TKD though, I know those guys are bad *kitten*. You couldn't pay me to step into that ring. And I was a rugby player for 7 years (and a good one). I'm a wimp when it comes to submissions. I had a fraternity brother in college who was a wrestler, I had him by 30 lbs and 6 inches and if we wrestled, he'd always kick the crap out of me in two seconds and I'd go lights out with one of is weirdo headlocks that he would get me in.
Oh well, we can't all be John Bones Jones!0 -
I missed it since i don't have Showtime, but I heard she put on another nice display. Now, i want to see her and Cyborg fight next.0

Cyborg's gonna have to move down at least 5 lbs (to the catch weight) or 10 lbs to meet the 135 weight restrictions as I doubt Rousey will go up to her weight to fight (although she might, she's pretty crazy). but we'll see.
She didn't even break a sweat in the last fight.0
