working out too much?

I'm just starting to wonder how much is too much exercise? I'm 18 and im in pretty good shape. I work out an hour or more a day but for some reason i keep gaining weight. I know that i have gained some muscle weight; however, i also know its not all muscle. Im just wondering if there could be a connection between the two? and suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.
As for exercises that i usually do are mostly cardio like the insanity types, running or boot camp classes at the gym. I also take a muscle toning class at the gym 4x a week.
Thanks in advance for replies

I'm not sure about the exercise.
But if you are eating a bit to much salt (chips, or processed foods) it can make you retain water weight.0 -
i eat under 1500 calories a day and avoid salty foods for the most part. which is why im having a hard time figuring out what im doing wrong and why i keep gaining weight0
