My family likes Hamburger Helper. I do as well, but more important I like the quick and easy dinners. I would think that there are some that are similiar but healthier. If it takes a bit longer I'm ok with that. Crock pot dinners are great as well. Anyone have some great recipes?

My mom used to make Western Meal in One (and HER mom used to make it too
1 lb. ground beef
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 clove garlic
1/2 c. chopped onion
1/2 c. chopped green onion
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. chili powder
1 can red beans, drained
2 1/2 c. tomatoes with juice, not drained
3/4 c. uncooked rice
3/4 c. grated Cheddar cheese
1/4 c. sliced black olives
Brown beef in vegetable oil with garlic. Add onion and green pepper, cook until onion is tender. Drain off fat. In a 2 quart casserole, combine the meat mixture, salt, chili powder, beans, rice and tomatoes. Bake covered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle with cheese and olives. Bake 15 minutes more. Yield: 6 to 8 servings.0 -
That sounds really good, and easy. Thanks.0

Its great to do these homemade to cut down sodium. I actually found research that making dinner like hamburger helper can actually be done homemade for about the same amount of time.0

This is from the McCormick spices site. Greek Skillet, very similar to Hamburger Helper Lasagna but WAYYY better. My whole family likes this, even my 6 year old. 333 calories per serving.

This is our go to quick hamburger recipe. You can always improvise.
Brown the hamburger, drain,
can of mushroom soup
can of water
2 cans of rice, (brown or white)
usually have veggies on the side.
*just a note: using the can from soup for measuring.0 -
Cheeseburger Macaroni
1 lb lean hamburger meat
1 pkg taco seasoning
1 can Rotel tomatoes and green chilies (or petite diced tomatoes)
2 cups beef broth
1 cup elbow macaroni (mine is sometimes a little watery so I use about 1 1/2 cups... or I let it simmer with the lid off to let some of the liquid evaporate. Whatever works bets)
Brown and drain hamburger meat. Stir in taco seasoning, Rotel, beef broth, and macaroni. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat and cover pan. Simmer 12-14 mins until macaroni is tender.
Meanwhile, make the cheese sauce…. (I always make only half of what it calls for and it tastes about the same)
2 Tablespoons butter
2 tbsp flour
3/4 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Melt the butter in a saucepan. Whisk in the flour and cook, whisking for 5 minutes until fragrant and light brown in color. Whisk in the milk and bring to a boil. Whisk until smooth and thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Add the salt and pepper to the cheese sauce. Pour the cheese sauce over the hamburger mixture. Stir gently to combine.
Easy Beef Stroganoff
½ onion, chopped
2 Tbsp. Butter
1 lb. Ground beef
2 Tbsp flour
½ tsp. Salt
1 c beef broth
½ c sour cream
½ pkg. Egg noodles, cooked and drained
Place butter in pan and melt. Add beef and cook until browned (if you like softer onions can cook w/ beef instead of adding later). Add flour and salt and stir well. Add beef broth and cook until slightly thickened. Add onions then sour cream. Heat to simmer – DO NOT BOIL! Serve over egg noodles.
Ground beef skillet
1 lb. Ground beef
3 c uncooked noodles
1 env. Onion soup mix
1 8oz. can tomato sauce
2 c water
Add ground beef and brown. Drain. Place noodles over beef. Top w/ dry soup mix. Pour tomato sauce and water over all. Push noodles in liquid. Don’t stir. Cover tightly and turn to high heat. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 min. stir before serving. (Tends to be a salty meal, can use less soup mix if desired)
Bow Tie Skillet Lasgna
Ingredients
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. box or pkg of mini farfalle or mini bow tie pasta
24 oz jar or spaghetti sauce
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup sour cream
Parmesan cheese, if desired
Instructions
In a skillet, brown the ground beef until fully cooked; drain.
Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to package directions. I use the mini because they cook in about 7 minutes.
After pasta is cooked, drain. Return to pot and toss with the olive oil.
Add the spaghetti sauce to the pasta and stir to coat.
Next, add the cooked ground beef, seasonings, mozzarella cheese and sour cream to the pasta. Fold together and cook over low heat until cheese is melted.
Serve and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired.
(This one isn't quite hamburger helper-ish because it takes more work, but it's yummy too and still easy):
Ground beef Casserole: pre-heat 350°
1 lb ground beef
4 potatoes
4 carrots
1 onion
1 can cream of mushroom
½ c ketchup
Salt and pepper to taste
Put ½ of raw ground beef in bottom of casserole dish. Slice vegetables; Lay on top. Salt and pepper to taste. Put the other ½ of beef on top. Mix soup and ketchup; pour on top. Bake for 1 hr.0 -

Hamburger Helper is a stew of noxious chemicals, including MSG. Try the Fantastic Foods line of instant meals, instead.
Watch out for white carbs; try to use whole grain pasta or whole grains like bulgur, quinoa, brown rice, millet, etcetera as a base for the meal. You can pre-cook a big batch and portion it out over the week.

Watch out for white carbs.
Why? IS there all different colors? What's wrong the the whites?0 -
I don't have a specific recipe to add, but I like the website kraftrecipe.com. Most of the recipes have the ease of hamburger helper and are pretty easy to tweak to make healthier. I get a ton of my recipes from there.0

I've always loved the Cheeseburger Macoroni so I was excited when I found this recipe on Pinterest. I use whole wheat penne and its so easy and very delicious. I also don't make it with cornstarch as its not needed and rather not use it.
Ingredients:
1lb lean ground beef (I used 96/4)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 cup hot water
2 cups skim milk
1-1/2 cups elbow macaroni (or other small pasta)
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Directions:
Brown ground beef in a large skillet or pot. Drain and return to pan.
Add in cornstarch, seasonings, hot water, skim milk and pasta. Stir to combine, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, place a lid on top, and simmer for 10 minutes, or until pasta is al dente, stirring a couple of times.
Turn off the heat and stir in cheddar cheese until melted. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until sauce is thickened.
