I had papillar thyroid cancer almost 2 years ago....at that time i was 118 pounds....after surgery. Radio active ablation. That very wonderful thyroid LID diet for nearly 8 weeks, and too many synthroid changes to count before getting placed on cytomel, and that is even now getting regulated.....im currently holding between 138-145.....it constsntly fluctuates in that range, so i dont get excited either way any more, lol i guess i should be glad that i havent gained more than i have, ive heard horror stories of extreme weight gain after thyroidectomies. Im justvlooking for some support, thanks

I had the same experience, feel free to add me if you like. I know it's tough to get on track when you are still getting regulated with your tsh levels, but it will happen! After a diagnosis like ours they keep you hyperthyroid for the rest of our lives, so things will calm down. As long as we are taking our medication properly, a thyroidectomy should not affect weight. I've had two bouts of the cancer now, two RAI treatments, one pregnancy after my second treatment, and I've still maintained a 60 pound weight loss after my original diagnosis.

Thanks Sarafil. I have been on 25 mcg of cytomel twice per day since April, and that seems to be my magic dose, however, when then stopped it on me to do my yearly cancer check.....it really messed me up! I hate when they do that, i almost really regret having the total thyroidectomy...I wonder sometimes if I wouldnt have been better off just taking my chances with the thyroid cancer. But then my husband and kids remind me how happy they are to have me here, HEALTHY!
