I was diagnosed with celiac in December, 2006. Up until then I had been gaining weight like crazy, was dealing with knotty pimples on my chin all the time, massive edema (water retention) in my legs and overall swollen, sad and not feeling well. Even though I weighed about 7 pounds less then than I do now, I looked about 30 pounds heavier (and felt it!)

Since then I have discovered that I'm also intolerant of corn, soy and rice. It's been a long journey to figure out what feels good and what doesn't.

I only started MFP 2 weeks ago, but have been trying to get healthier since the spring. I completed the C25K program in May, ran my first 5K race, was running about 21km/13 miles a week but injured myself in July and had to take the month off. A bit of aqua running and cycling were what I did to try and not lose my endurance.

We went to the Provence / South France on vacation in July and I did a lot of hiking, canyoning, rowing. We had a wonderful time! I lost 1kg and decided to really kick butt and get serious about getting in shape and losing weight.

The last 3 weeks I have been eating not only gluten-free but following a paleo/primal diet. After a few runs in the first week of August my leg has been really bothering me again, so I am taking off the rest of the month from running. I've been on my bike, and doing pilates almost daily for the last 2 weeks.

In these 3 weeks I have already lost 10 pounds / 4.5 kg and I think it makes a huge difference. My gut swelling is almost completely gone, my face is not swollen and I feel FANTASTIC! So good that I wanted to share this and maybe encourage those of you who would like to try paleo. You can friend me and see my food diary, I'm glad to help anyone out.

Taken today, 10 pounds lighter!

Sorry for the mussy look, but it is hot and humid here today!

Obviously I still have a long journey ahead of me, but I feel so good about it that I'm more looking forward to it than dreading it!

    hi there,
I just read your post and I am 2 1/2 years of being gluten free. It was a very big challenge for me but it seems to be getting better but I know there is a lot to still learn. Yes i can relate to what you are saying i gained a 1 lb a week after i was diagnosed with not being able to eat gluten. I was at my heaviest, I hated it! I have other health issues so i had to stay away from pasta and I did try to stay away from the sweets! I have such a bad sweet tooth. :) Wow gluten stuff has a lot of sodium and sugars. But i have adapted  Trying to cut my sodium and sugars and so far not doing to bad .
It was until then that someone had told me about MFP and I had tried everything that i could think of so I thought I would give this a try. I started MFP last November and lost so far 15 lbs but here lately I have been yo yoing, but I will get there to my goal, it is gonna take some time.

Welcome!! Please feel free to add me as a friend, we can do this gluten free journey together
