Cardio will burn the layer of chub you probably have on top of your abs. Also any lifting will engage your core. My baby is almost 5 months, and I've come a long way with running, lifting, and some circuit training.0

You can certainly incorporate direct ab training to strengthen your core, but abs will show when bodyfat is low enough in the abdominal area and you can't dictate where fat is lost.
Your best bet is to continue to eat at a calorie deficit, consume adequate macronutrients, train hard (resistance training will help), and get rest.0 -
I think planks are a great exercise to have a strong core after pregnancy but in order to have your abs showing the only thing you can do is lower your body fat0

Hey, my babies are 23 and 6 months old, so I have dealt with the post baby belly for awhile now lol. Like the post before, cardio, cardio, cardio....especially jogging if you are up to it bc of the twisting motion of your torso. When you are ready to start doing ab exercises again, be very careful that you do not have separated ab muscles from the pregnancy. My abs separated with my first baby bc she made excess fluid and by the end I was measuring at 42 weeks along....so I was ridiculously big lol. I went straight back to regular ab exercises, like sit ups and other crunch like exercises. They helped but my tummy still "bulged". I found out later that it is not good to resume "regular" ab exercises after a pregnancy, especially if your muscles are separated, and that it can actually cause bulging behind the ab wall and hurt your back which was happeneing to me ugg. After this last pregnancy I have focused on strengthening the core muscles that suppport your ab muscles (back, obliques, and lower abs). Planks have worked the best and yogas type balancing exercised to build and stabalize the supporting muscles. My stomach is already "flatter" than before. After awhile I moved up to lower and side ab exercises, and now am to light crunches. I also use one of those ab wrap things that make you sweat, and it helps support your abs and back while doing cardio. Look up the separated ab stuff on the internet, there is alot of info about it. I wish doctors would have more information on this while you are pregnant. Good luck and it will get better!0

Check out Leah Sarago DVD's- Ballet Body/Warrior/Release. She has some really awesome core strengthening exercises, and actually all of her workouts are awesome. There's also a DVD she did with Suzanne Bowen called Long and Lean Pregnancy and it has a postpartum ab segment.0

Others have said it... Focus on eating right and exercising ... You will begin to lose body fat. To tone your abs I would look into a exercise program that focuses on a lot of core( tights all the way up to shoulders) type exercises...
Not only will core exercises strengthen your abs and give you the tone look you are after it will strengthen many other body parts over all and really make you a more sturdy !0 -
Diastasis Recti is the medical terminology.....and the best ab muscle to work on for baby bulge is the Transabdominal muscle. This muscle is the body's natural corset and will help strengthen the core and reduce pregnancy ab separation. (Speaking from experience and not as. Medical/fitness expert). ;-).
After that, I would focus on Obliques.....then add the other Abs...0 -
