How do more calories help you lose weight?

I always thought a good general rule to lose weight was to burn more caloires then you eat. After reading some posts here I see people are saying to eat more to lose more. I dont get it. Some one help me please

You still eat less calories than you burn. That's the only way to lose weight. The eat more to lose more thing is for people who are severely under-eating (netting less than 1200 calories per day in most cases) who are seriously depressing their metabolism due to hormonal responses to severe calorie deficits over prolonged periods of time.0
