I am trying to stick with 1200 calories today since I don't know if I will be working out...

I ate breakfast this morning at around 180-200 cals.

What's gonna be more "bang" for my buck nutrition wise? I would say 800 cals should be my max for lunch. Hopefully less...then maybe getting a workout in after work!

What should I eat? What do you think I should stay away from?

  • Stick with proteins....they will fill you up faster than other things will...so turkey (ham or whatever) is a good choice...plus turkey is usually a pretty lean meat...also veggies are great! like carrots, green beans, etc. try to avoid breads or starches ( i mean one serving is ok but stuffing, rolls, mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoe casserol are all in this catergory)

anything really cheesy, made with mayonaisse, and prob steer clear of homemade desserts. veggies and turkey will b your best bet, as long as the veggies weren't cooked in butter! Good luck

Here's what I'm having for lunch on most days which fills me up quite nicely and is a lot less than 800 calories (only 321). And I'm a 62 yr old man who is 5' 11" and weighs around 185. You might want to give something like this a try.

    Lunch
    Coca Cola - Coke Zero, 12 oz 0 0 0 0 0 0
    Fleischmann's - Light Margarine, 0.5 Tbsp 20 0 0 0 2 0
    Lettuce - Iceberg (includes crisphead types), raw, 0.1 cup shredded 1 10 0 0 0 0
    Sarah Lee Bread - 45 Calories and Delightful, 2 slices 90 0 18 5 1 5
    Boar's Head - Ovengold Roast Breast of Turkey - Skinless, 3 oz 90 210 0 20 2 0
    Yoplait Light Fat Free - Key Lime Pie Yogurt, 6 oz 100 250 19 5 0 0
    Jello Brand - Sugar Free Cherry Jello, 1 cup 20 0 0 2 0 0
    Totals: Calories: 321, Potassium: 470, Carbs: 37, Protein: 32, Fats: 5, Fiber: 5

You'll then have room for some healthy snacks if you get hungry later on in the day.

I'm going to have the same issue tomorrow with our Thanksgiving luncheon. I think I will stay away from a lot of the desserts. I'll eat the turkey and a little bit of green bean casserole and a possibly a very small amount of mashed potatoes with a tad of gravy. Someone will be bringing fresh fruit so I will eat that instead of the desserts like pies and cake.

You can take a taste of most everything, just not eat 3x servings of it. Using up 800 calories on a luncheon is quite a lot, I can do the Golden Corral all-you-can-eat buffet dinner on 600 calories, including a spoonful of two different kinds of pie.

My rule is to get a taste (just one spoonful) of anything I want, and to always leave at least half behind if a spoonful serving isn't possible (ie: sausage or pie).

Oh! I stay away from all pastas and creamy sauces. Usually high fats and empty carbs there.
  • We have our Thanksgiving luncheon tomorrow (18 Nov 09). I already worked out yesterday and will work out again today. NOTHING stops me from working out....not EVEN the holidays or my Aunt Emily (she arrived yesterday) and I'll knock her block off by working out today again during my lunch hour).

Drink water all day in the morning and before lunch time. The rule of thumb is to start w/soup since it will fill you up. Drink one of those single serving soups (Healthy Choice, etc) and dilute with water to get the access sodium out of it. MY calorie intake is 1,250 since I've lost 18-20 pounds (give or take since my Aunt Emily came yesterday; I gained 2 pounds...but I'm NOT discouraged; I weigh myself once a month...check out my profile and weigh-in).

Start w/the relish dish plate. Zoom in on it and grab pickles, celery, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, brocolli, and cauliflower. Get two slices of white turkey breast WITH no gravy, grab some dressing since it's made with corn meal, giblets, and other healthy spices, as well as mashed potatoes. Since these foods are cooked at home; I'm sure they will have plenty of sodium, so don't grab some punch or soda (Diet). Bring your bottled water with you to the Thanksgiving luncheon. If you'll know way before hand they won't have whole wheat bread/rolls, go ahead and bring two slices of whole wheat bread w/you and a small ready-to-go plastic cup w/you full of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). You can use THAT to drizzle on your turkey breast, mashed potatoes, and to dip your whole wheat bread in. Did I mention NO gravy? You don't need it, thus the EVOO. That should max you to the 800 calories. Don't forget you'll be celebrating Thanksgiving w/your family, too. It's up to you to SACRIFICE not eating dessert at work or at home. Your call.

    Blessings! :flowerforyou:
