Okay, i'm making whole grain pasta and the serving size is 2 oz, how do I determine how much that is? Before it's cooked or after? I don't have a scale so how would I determine this?

I've asked this same question before. It's 2 ounces before cooking. Not sure how you'd measure without a scale though. Maybe eyeball it based on how many servings the whole package holds?0

One ounce is equal to a 1/4 Cup I believe. If you have measuring cups, perhaps you could use those to figure it out0

let me go grab my biggest loser calorie counter it has a conversion chart..0

2 oz equals 1/4 cup0

I measure it before on a scale. the box says something like 13 oz...so when I measure the whole amount dry, it comes up to 13 oz. So I ASSUME that since the weight of the box directly coorelates to the nutritional information, that 2 oz is dry.
I'm not sure if this is correct, but it makes sense to me.0 -
I just measured some and it really depends on the type of pasta...
2 oz farfalle = almost 1 cup
2 oz rotini - a little over 3/4 cup
2 oz macaroni = about 1/2 cup
Rice is easier, it's always 1/4 cup.
And wether it's rice, pasta, or any other cereal, portions and serving size are always given with the raw/dry form of the ingredient.0 -
It depends on the cut of the pasta. This is really difficult to estimate with spaghetti. One website says it is "a fist"?
Penne Rigate: 2 oz. dry = 1/2 cup dry = 1 cup cooked
Elbows: 2 oz. dry = 1/2 cup dry = 1 cup cooked
Rotini (spirals): 2 oz. dry = 3/4 cup dry = 1½ cups cooked0 -
I also use my scale generally. The cup measurements listed are really good, but for spaghetti (which can't really be measured by cups) a 2oz serving size is about a 5/8 inch circle.0

Thank you everybody! Big help for the pasta confused :flowerforyou:0

2 oz equals 1/4 cup
Please be aware that "2oz" of LIQUID = 1/4 cup (1 cup is 8 oz). But that doesn't necessarily apply to pasta. There is a difference between liquid volume and acutal weight measurements.
The last time I measured rotini (on my scale) and then cooked it, 1 2oz serving ended up being about a cup of cooked pasta. However, that'll be different if you're using different pastas (like a cup of cooked spaghetti would likely be a lot more than 1 serving) because there would be less empty space between the pieces of pasta).0 -
For spagetti there is a cool tool you can probably pick up at walmart of something...it's a piece of plastic with holes in it - based on the size of the hole when you put it over your pasta and it tells you the serving size...usually 3-5 holes. from smaller to bigger. I did a google seach and found one through "the afternoon" which is powered by Amazon. Google "pasta measure tool" and you will see what I mean.

The calorie king book says that 2oz of dry pasta should be 3 to 3.5oz cooked. Still not a definite answer. This is why I hate dealing with pasta.:grumble:0

haha this is why I eat miracle noodles and not pasta.
No guessing and it fills me up!0
