We just make sure my daughter get protein at every meal/snack. We also get Boost to carry with us, in case we're in a situation where she needs to eat. We only let her have one of those a day.

peanut butter is one of the best foods for hypoglycemia. if her blood glucose BG, is really low orange or apple juice also dried pineapple for a quick spike in BG. followed by milk and peanut butter that will break down slowly. You should get a glucose monitor as well that is the only reliable way to monitor BG. feel free to friend me i can give you more info

My daughter has had type 1 diabetes for 9 years so I am a little bit familiar with low blood sugar. The important foods for keeping blood sugar steady include fat and protein. So for example, if blood sugar is low, orange juice will bring blood glucose up, but then if you want to keep the blood sugar steady longer, give chocolate milk. A website that helped us tremendously when she was diagnosed was the www.childrenwithdiabetes.com website. Also, a helpful book is the "Pink Panther" Diabetes book, which you can read online here. http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/colleges/medicalschool/centers/BarbaraDavis/OnlineBooks/books/Pages/UnderstandingDiabetes.aspx.

There are lots of resources out there aimed at children with blood sugar issues and these are a couple of great places to start. Good Luck, and if I can be of any help, please feel free to message me here or at my email...jennifer.dunton@gmail.com

Edited to add: My daughter was diagnosed at age 2, so I have had the experience of dealing with a little one with low blood sugar too, in case you want to talk/share experiences, I am here!

I have hypoglycemia. If you make sure she eats every two to three hours, depends on each individual, she should be fine. In case she isn't the suggestions of the others are good. Something with carbs to quickly raise her blood sugar and then regular meal. Good luck.
