I don't think anyone is ever sure where to start off with one of these posts, so I am just going to jump right in. I have battled with weight issues, for the most part, my whole life. I come from a family that had the "You have to clean your plate" mentality and seconds were not looked down upon. Couple that with my father's side who are diabetics, and do not take care of themselves, and my mom's side where heart disease is present and let's face it.. I did not have a very good chance at learning healthy eating habits. Learming how to eat correctly is hard when you are an adult. Especially with the busy lives most of us live. Everything is placed on convience and what can make the day easier. I am guilty of just that. I did not see the difference in going out to eat over cooking at home. A lesson that I still have trouble grasping.
After a trip to the doctor this week where i was made to step on the scale, the number not only scared me, I wanted to cry. How did I let myself get so heavy? How did it go so far? How did I not notice the weight? I think that is something that we all ask ourselves before we take a step in the right direction. Take that leap to try and better ourselves, whether it be for vainity or health. I will be honest. I am doing it for both reasons. I want to be able to wear a bikini on the beach. More so though, I do not want to end up like my aunts and uncles. Overweight and passed on before 60 because of heath issues due to diabetes. I would like to think that my head is at least in the right place with putting the health issues first. Not that it matters. I am losing my weight for me, not you. Though, the support from people going through the same thing is always appreciated. I mean, who doesn't want to hear... Oh wow! You look great! Great job on that 5 pound weight loss! You can do it!!! I know that I do. And I am one who likes to encourage others. So, if you are looking for someone who will let you know just how good you are doing, you've met her.
By the way, my name is Vanessa. A 25 year old college student and Domestic Goddess (thank you to no work available in my area) who has an obsession with tattoos, Shakesphere, and loves to cook and spend time with friends. An ex-jock who used to absolutely love the outdoors and spend all the free time that I could in it doing everything from biking to hiking to swimming, I am, slowly, learning the love of all those things again. I love meeting new people and learning how they tick. Yes, I do ask a million questions. Enough about me, though. I am interested in you. How has your weight loss journey been? Any tips or tricks? How about some healthy recipes to share? I'll share if you will!
