Diet Soda

Hi everyone,
I've been wondering about the effects of Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi. I've lost a few lbs recently (3.5 lbs on MFP, but I started losing weight before joining the website, probably about 30 lbs total, but most of that was a while ago). I still crave Diet Coke, and somehow I just can't believe that there aren't any negative health effects, regardless of the drink's magical "0 everything" label. I prefer Diet Coke over regular Coke because it's not as sweet, and I have yet to find an organic or more natural version of soda that isn't horrendously sweet. (I would love to hear your suggestions though!)
Now, I've heard that there are some longer term negative health effects of the artificial sweetener in diet sodas. Are there any weight-related effects? I don't want to stop consuming all of the food and drinks that I enjoy; I try to pick and choose to eat/drink what is most WORTH the calories, etc. It's just hard to weigh in on Diet Coke's "price" with the label being so ambiguous.
