GPS Tracker advise

I use cardiotrainer to monitor the mileage of my run/walks. There are couple of times on my path that it will auto-pause because I am looping back. So it under-tracks the run mileage. Does anyone use either an Android app or separate device that they really like for tracking distance?

  • i use sports tracker on my android phone and its been working really well. I run on trails that weave through the town and it picks up on me when i turn around on the trail. It has a setting where it wont allow it to stop. Hopefully that helps!

I have a Yellow Garmin handheld GPS that I just drop in a pocket.

It is far more reliable than my phone, reasonably waterproof for Kayaking, and it is also cool to leave in my pocket on vacation so I know where I've been

I use cardio trainer on my android as well. I don't have problems and I double back on a lot of my runs. It may be the GPS function on your phone that is actually causing the issue.

I used to use my phone apps, but got tired of strapping my phone to me. Now I use my Garmin Forerunner and it's waaay more accurate and less cumbersome.

I use Strava on my rides and it picks up well even with twisty trails and doubling back. Runs on my Android phone which I carry regardless, seems to match up pretty well and seems to match exertion and terrain better than some. If I ride the same route home that I did to work, the calorie expenditure is different because it's able to see that on the way home I'm going downhill and coasting more. Works for running/hiking too!
