Healthy Recipes, beautful food and Loaves and Fishes

Hello, I have a healthy cooking page on facebook that is sitting at 249 likes right now. In trying to get more likes to my page, I am going to spend $1 for every new like between now and Sunday for healthy food to donate to Loaves and Fishes. It is a food bank here in Charlotte NC.

Unlike many of those scam ones you do see on facebook, I really will do this. I will take a picture of the food and post it on as my profile pic.

I do have some good recipes and alternative recipes for the every day foods we love as well.

Please stop by: https://www.facebook.com/TheSassyGourmet

Thanks!

Too bad you can't donate without needing support on facebook.....

Sorry, I have worked in homeless services for years and it makes me snarky when people turn helping their fellow human beings into a gimmick.

Well dear, I dontate every few months to Loaves and Fishes because I have been blessed enough to do so, then there is the almost 1000 I spend around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

So if you want to still be sick that is your choice, but if I choose to spend more of my money than I typically do by getting likes to my page of healthy living, it is a win for everyone but my bank account.

I typically do not like to tell people all that I do for charity since that is taking away from the blessing and putting the credit back to me, but since you felt the need to try and degrade my character, I felt it necessary.

Hey, wanna match me dollar for dollar? That would be awesome!

    Have a blessed day.

I don't understand what you mean by still wanting to be sick?
anyway, Yes I am jaded, maybe thats my sickness, but I am on the receiving end of peoples charity often, I work in a homeless shelter, we also have a food pantry and domestic violence resource center. I get plenty tired of people patting themselves on the backs for what they give, who want to broadcast it. Thats my beef with the facebook like donating systems, its too similar that those who want their picture taken handing us a check.
THat being said, what you are doing IS good, and will help your charity of choice, and all of our organizations need that. I am sorry for not emphasizing that before.

And sorry, I cant match your donation, my shelter's federal funding is transitioning, they can't afford to pay me full time hours, so I am working for free half the time, and can't afford to give monetary donations at this time.

Thanks. I am in agreement that I do not like people that walk around with rubber arms either, the ones that do nice things then pat themselves on the back for it, like I said before, that is drawing attention away from the blessing and giving it to who ever. I get disgusted when people do something half way nice, like give some one a quarter or pay a little on someones Christmas Lay Away at Kmart and the first thing they do is come to Facebook and tell everyone what a great person they are. I have been known to hit "unfriend" to people that do that on a constant basis.

I assure you, I am not looking for a pat on the back for this, I have a great page full of good information and healthy cooking ideas. I actually started this page when dozens of people from here started coming to me for recipes and cooking advice. I was shocked at how many people simply did not know how to cook healthy.

Kudos to you for the work you do, I know for a fact it is not easy. I choose giving to local food pantry as my way of giving back to my community. Seeing all that breaks my heart and as you know, they can see that in my eyes in a heart beat. I am a push over and then I get really upset when I see people actually use their children as a way to get me to do things for them or give them money. Last time I did that, what I thought was going to food for 2 kids went to a case of beer. Caught the lady myself a half hour after I gave her the money. Sigh....My thoughts and prayers are with you as well as them.

My Dad has had that happen to him, people asking for money then going to buy cigarettes, he now carries grocery store gift cards to give out instead, or if he has time, he will invite someone to eat with him. In college I used to take the train in to DC to visit him, and most of the time he would already be at the Sbarros self serve line with someone he just met at the station who asked him for change. Some of my favorite memories :)
My experience has led me to believe that people make do in the ways that they know how. if there is little expectation for long term benifit from working to improve your future, which for many, that is how they feel, or even have deduced from their family/community etc, then yes, money will go first to making themselves feel better right now. its hard to fault them for that, even if I do have a rather petty pang when shelter residents have an iphone, or go to the bar when they could save for a security deposit. :P But one of the things that bothers me is when we judge people for making choices based on their enviroment and circumstances, that comes from the same place as patting ourselves on the back for helping out. hence why I get snarky.

Trust me dear, I am in a program of recovery myself and it is very important for me to try and not judge. Now in saying that, I put an emphasis on "try". It is hard for me to take someone serious and not judge them when they make a remark about how they can not afford to eat healthy when they have a case of beer and a bag of doritos in their cart, but hey, I do not have to live in their skin, I live in mine.

I also live in a city that has been devastated by the economy. This is a big banking town and well, we know what happened there. The demand for food at the food bank is incredible, and there is no way I will judge anyone that goes and stands in line in the hot Carolinas for food for their kids. It is actually very sad to see them. That is why this cause is so important to me. Feeding the underprivileged AND Well Woman Exam awareness are two very important things to me. We are losing way to many women to breast and cervical cancer and it can be avoided if detected early.

I hope each and every one of you ladies has had an exam this year, and if not, please PLEASE make an appointment to do so. My 41 year old sister was just diagnosed with cervical cancer thank GOD it was caught early. This was her first exam in over a decade.

But I digress. Thanks for all your support on my page. :flowerforyou:

Thanks guys, I ended up with 81 more likes so that means I will spend 81 buck on food for the food pantry.

I will spend it all on protein such as canned tuna, chicken, ham and peanut butter.

Next time you are at the grocery store and can afford to pick up an extra can of tuna, can of corn or jar of peanutbutter, please do so and drop off at a local food pantry. There are more in your area than you realize.

The people that are standing in line are the ones in serious need of food and it is up to private donations to help out with that.

Thanks again for all your support and I hope you keep enjoying my page. :)
