Eat more to lose more?

Hello all, I have recently done a metabolic test, which showed that just to maintain functionality, I was to eat somewhere right about 1700 calories. I was also told to eat 1g of protein for every pound of body weight, and that by doing this, I would lose more weight. Have any of you ever heard of this? I weigh 250 now, and I can't imagine how in the world I can get that much protein every day?! Any ideas? I've been going to the gym for about 2 hours 5 days a week for the past 2 years, with the exception of summer, which has been a little more lax as my kids have been out of school, but honestly, I have only lost about 15 pounds total... pretty frustrating as I don't think I eat too badly. I mean, for dinner tonight, I had one grilled, boneless pork chop, green beans from our garden, as well as some yellow squash from our garden, and a glass of skim milk. Any advice from you all???
Thanks so much!

It is possible to lose the fat, keep the muscle, get the fit body you want without starving yourself. It's a lot of info, but check it out - lots of helpful folks in the group (the last link), as well.

You go to the gym 2 hours a day - 5 days a week and have only lost 15 pounds over the past 2 years? Then I would suggest you are doing the wrong work outs? What are you doing at the gym?

Up until yesterday I was getting 300g protein/day and I'm about 170. Just dropped to 250 in a 6 day cycle.

The leaner we get the more we need to consume as shedding body fat is more about metabolic speed than calorie counting. Your dinner sounds pretty good, cutting carbs is the way to go. Great articles, Amy.

It's .8 to 1.5g per 1lb of lean body mass, not body weight.

Good to hear you actually tested your metabolism which provides you with accurate information rather than relying on formulas. Did you evaluate your resting metabolic rate or active metabolic rate?

The resting metabolic rate, which showed I needed to eat something like 1720 calories just to sustain normal function, without going into starvation mode. I also did a VO2 test in order to show what heart rates to work in for losing fat rather than burning sugar. Turns out, not only am I apparently not eating enough calories, but I have been burning mostly sugar, as I have been doing too much time in the upper areas of my heart rate.... I was trying to do interval type stuff on the treadmill, and trying to run some and walk some. When I would run, it wasn't very long and wasn't very fast, but I would get my heart rate up to the 170 range, then let it recover down to the 130-140 range... turns out, that has been much too high! I have also been doing some cycling classes, as well as some boxing classes and lifting weights. The good news, I am strong! The bad news, I have hardly any aerobic endurance, and have a lot of fat!! Somewhere in the range of 34% body fat.... that's what I am trying to do, is whittle away at that number, while keeping my lean body mass so I can show the muscles I know are hidden way, WAY under all this stinkin' fat!
