MFP Calories vs BMR?

So, if MFP tells me that my BMR is 1590 and I put all my info into my settings and it tells me to eat 1200 calories per day, then how does that work since every post I read says that you need to eat at least your BMR calories just to live?

You dont really need to eat above your bmr but if you do it over time, your metabolism will slow down and you will probably lose muscle. Also, the reason mfp gave you 1200 calories is because you probably put sedentary and you want to lose 2 lbs per week. Based on your weight loss ticket you do not have much to lose so you would be better off aiming for 1lb per week and eat back 50-75% of your exercise calories. If you do this and do heavy weight training, then you should maintain your metabolism.
