Need Resources that Teach Proper Nutrition and Weight Loss

Anyone know of a good beginner resource (preferrably a video) to teach proper nutrition and weight loss?

My dad, who had his second hernia surgery in December 2011, just found out that he has at least 2 more small hernias. The dr recommends that he lose weight rather than go back under the knife at this time.

He knows almost nothing about proper nutrition as he was skinny for the first 45 or so years of his life. He also knows very little about proper exercise.

Apparently, I overwhelm him with info, and he HATED Weight Watchers. I told him I would look for some informational videos and such. Of course, I signed him up for MFP, but I can't make him log in.

He is 58 years old, about 5'9" and 230 pounds. The dr would love for him to get to 145, but Dad, of course, thinks that is unrealistic...and it may well be. I keep telling him that 175 is better than 230, etc. Any ideas? I am grateful for any information I can pass along to my dad. Thanks all!
