The Duke University Diet

Hello,

I have recently started a low carb, high fat diet that is similiar to the Atkins diet. I am having a hard time dealing. My body is weak and I have no stamina when exercising. The food is getting to me...eating eggs and all the meat is grossing me out. I am being followed by a physician and he advises to stay the course as this is only my second week of the diet. Has anyone tried this diet? I know induction is the hardest part of anything but being the single mom of twin 3-year-olds makes this a challenge for me. I can't walk the 2 miles I was able to a month ago since starting this program.

It is all frustrating for me...to say the least.

If Atkins isn't a fit for you, stop. I always felt gross when I tried it too.

You'll never stick with a diet that you don't feel great on. Perhaps try South Beach if you want to restrict certain carbs.

Why are you doing a low carb diet? Was this recommended by your doctor to help with a certain medical issue? Or did your doctor suggest that it was the only way to lose weight? Or did you just decide to do it on your own?

My personal doctor didn't recommend the diet. I decided to start seeing this doctor at a program called Nu Beginnings. The diet that they follow is low carb, high protein, high fat, no sugar, intense physical therapy. I also have a slipped disk in my lower back. I am losing the weight but I feel horrible.

My personal physician isn't too happy about it. Her idea to shield off the diabetes and to lose the weight was to not eat the meat, exercise, and increase my fruit and veggies.
