What is my body shape?

I keep seeing people mentioning "body shapes"...I generally know what the qualities for each body shape is, but I can't really tell what mine is. This is my "before" picture (I've lost 20 pounds since then), and the weight loss has been most apparent in my waist, which is kind of why I'm not sure what my body type is. I don't have any current pictures, otherwise I'd post them. Thank you! :flowerforyou:

Just by your photo, it appears to be pear? My guess only. Gees, I often have the same question, because even tho I personally hate my stomach/ab/hip/butt areas more than the rest of me, but lately my weight is showing up more and more all over my entire body! My question for you is...what is the importance of understanding your body shape? I might be missing out on understanding something very important! Hey...best wishes on your efforts...I think you are a beautiful gal now...can't (weight) to see your progress!0

Congratulations on your weight loss! That is great! I also appreciate you being so honest and open. I would be scared to post a photo of myself but I find stories like yours so inspirational and they make me stay on-track. So, thank you! I am not sure what "body shape" you are. I think that most women are either
pear shaped -- little top and relativity big butt and thighs
or
apple shaped -- thin legs with a relativity big top/belly
Since you are losing fastest in your waist, maybe you are more of an apple? I am losing in my butt and I am more of a pear.
Or, some of us are just large all over! :-)
All the best to you!0 -
I would say apple. Congrats on your weight loss.0

Because I can see her waist line clear as day and her shoulders and hips seem to be near the same width. I'd say she was an hourglass. Hour glass shapes can have many extremes from a minor waist to hip ratio to great waist to hip ratio. She's not straight up and down (boy), her hips arent greater than her upper body either (pear) and her shoulder dont appear to be wider than her hips (apple),0

This picture doesn't show it very well, but I definitely have thunder thigh syndrome lol...My thighs are my biggest problem area (to me...But maybe they seem horrifyingly big to me because I really want to wear shorts but don't feel comfortable doing so lol). Yet, at the same time, I wouldn't say that my top is "small" either. That's why it's so confusing, but thank you all so much for the input, support and kind words!.
@moose - I'm not really sure if knowing your body type effects your weight loss, I was mostly just curious so I could know where where the weight loss will predominantly show at first0 -
Bump - only because 3 people replied and all three thought I was a different body shape0

I would say you are either a pear (bottom heavy) or an hourglass. I can see your waist.
If your shoulders are roughly as wide as your hips you will be an hourglass. If your hips are wider you will be a pear.
No way are you an apple (especially if you carry weight in your thighs).
I am an hourglass and tend to find that I put on weight all over. If I lose my waist I know I'm really in trouble! Ha ha.
Your weight will most likely come off your waist first. Hips and thighs will be more of a struggle (sorry! For me too though if it's any consolation).
I can recommend the 30 day Shred for rediscovering your waist and shape in general.
Good luck.
P.S it is generally more healthy to carry weight in your lower half (rather than waist) for women.0
