    Ennui, maybe?

Consider a paraphrased Newton's law of motion... objects at rest stay at rest, and objects in motion stay in motion...

Get up... push yourself out the door... and go do something that you really enjoy. Whatever it is... get the blood flowing... laugh, cry, scream, dance... whatever you're feeling at that moment... then keep it moving...

It sounds much like depression. Sometimes that vile monster can sneak up on the most unsuspecting of persons. Either that or you're just not getting enough "energy food". If you are sleeping for 8 hours and waking tired you may be experiencing sleep problems. Could be any number of things. I would suggest a full physical from the doc. If all checks out well then at least you know what the problem isn't.

    Hi,
Well it can be a many things. It can be depression, but Dont want to say thats what it is. If you can maybe speak to someone else about this. a counselor of sorts. It can be very hard trying to embark on this new journey. Do you have a support system at home?
It can also be diet. You know you are what you eat?
I hope you can pinpoint the issue so you can know what to work on. Keep up the work. it may get tough but those are the moments you realize your true strength. And what you are made of.

Are you not logging your food or is that really all you eat in a day??
Two kids and a partner can create a lot of stress in a persons life.

Depression is definitely a possibility, and it doesn't really need a "reason" to affect someone.

Medically speaking, you might want to look up hypothyroidism, or look into whether or not it runs in your family. If you got labs, they may or may not have included your TSH level, but that doesn't always indicate all thyroid problems. Especially if thyroid problems run in your family, get your T3 and T4 levels checked! The major symptom of hypothyroidism is fatigue.

I have to agree with Rainhoward: are you actually eating your min. calories? I went back quite a few weeks in you diary and you either aren't logging everything or you are definitely not eating enough. Be more consistent with your logging and be sure to eat enough calories. I know some days its tough especially with 2 kids to take care of! (I have 4 + hubby + a couple of 26 yr olds who rely on my for emotional support +it could go on and on) If you're even 1/2 as busy as I am you NEED to eat to fuel your brain and body. I hope you can figure things out quickly and get to the bottom of your energy crisis!

There was a commercial awhile back with a woman saying how she had a great life, terrific husband, 2 wonderful kids, dream house, etc...so why did she feel so lost?

Depression is physical. Its a medical condition. You don't have to have a terrible life to be depressed. People whose only symptom is chronic pain can be depressed. People who sleep a lot can be depressed. It isn't always just being sad. Talk to a doctor if you aren't sure....cant hurt. :)

On the subject of depression, there are two types: clinical and situational. The former can occur out of the blue, no outside reason. The latter comes from outside stimuli like a death of a loved one, a break up, general bad luck, etc. Both can be treated without medication (depending on severity) and just with therapy and a lot of work, but I would suggest having a doctor evaluate you for it before you consider it. Self-diagnosing can prove fatal, especially with mental disorders.

That aside, what exactly is the quality of your sleep? Do you sleep straight through or are you up at various points in the night? Do you have trouble falling asleep?

There's also a possibility the fatigue comes from mental problems such as too much on your mind, stress, work problems, kinks in relationships, so on. Stuff like that can physically wear you out. If you've got a lot on your mind, try activities that will help clear them like meditation, yoga, candle/incense burning, or listening to calming music.

One thing I would suggest looking into, depression or no, is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It's something you can do on your own to help turn negative thoughts into positive and I've known a lot of depressed people who have found it helpful. That aside, you have to keep pushing yourself to do at least a little bit. It can help with energy, but it will at least ease off any "I was lazy" guilt thoughts you might get. This stuff's not easy, take it from someone who's been labelled mentally ill and chokes pills down everyday just to be this calm. If I can do it, so can you, hon.

    Four things come to mind:
    1. I didn't notice the age of your children, but for me when they are toddlers, deep FATIGUE comes with the territory!! You WILL recover from it. Take heart. I have 5 children ages 14,10,8,6,4. I am just coming out of my fatigue.

    2. If you are not exercising regularly, you will not have energy. If you start back, your energy will pick up VERY QUICKLY (in a few days). I recommend that you begin to work your household toward an early bedtime, and begin an early bedtime habit which will allow you to get up early and exercise befor your household gets going. Me-Time. Very good for moms.

    3. If you have insurance which will cover a hormone panel (testing your testosterone, etc) you can determine if your hormones are causing your fatigue. Low testosterone can affect your other hormones, and low testosterone=fatigue!! I am NOT a medication person, so when this happened to me, last spring actually, I took the natural route...you know, reduce stress, eat your veggies, exercise, sleep lol...

    4. You may be experiencing some depression. Again, I have experienced this, and there is no shame! Also, i took the natural route...for me it was vitamin d3 (if not in the sunshine, i took 6000iu per day), fish oil, and the magic bullet, St. John's Wort herb extract. In 4 weeks I felt relief, In 6 weeks I felt normal. In 3 months I could begin to taper off the herb. I still take it in the winter months,,,JUST to be preventative yikes! I didn't like experiencing depression, thank-you very much!

PM me if you want more details. you will get better!!

How do you feel about you? The times in my life I have had bouts of depression have had to do much more with my feelings about me, rather than about my job, kids or wife.

    What a kind, thoughtful question!:flowerforyou:
Yes, IMO the best way to have a "good feeling about me" is if I GIVE.
Whether it be time taken to talk to someone.
Or to give to a need someone has.
    Or to show love.
Or to make sure to give a smile.
Or to do something nice that helps someone.
Those are awesome remedies for depression,
and a great boost to self-image!
Makes me feel huge inside, and that I am rich.

Have your doctor refer you to a Sleep Health Center. They're used to dealing with sleep disorders. It could be a physical problem. In my case, I had sleep apnea and it was totally draining. I would ALWAYS be tired. I was beyond tired, I was physically exhausted after "sleeping" 8 hrs or more. It got to the point that I would wake up in the morning & start driving to work and about 30 min into my drive I'd have to stop, park the car, & nap for 20 minutes just so i could drive the rest of the way to work.

I agree with boston6. I had a lot of the same symptoms as you and found I had sleep apnea. I never in a million years would have guessed the symptoms that I had were all related to sleep apnea. I have only been on my CPAP machine for a month but already I feel better. Here is a list of the symptoms:

Major signs and symptoms of sleep apnea
    Loud and chronic snoring
Choking, snorting, or gasping during sleep
    Long pauses in breathing
Daytime sleepiness, no matter how much time you spend in bed

Other common signs and symptoms of sleep apnea include:
Waking up with a dry mouth or sore throat
    Morning headaches
    Restless or fitful sleep
    Insomnia or nighttime awakenings
Going to the bathroom frequently during the night
Waking up feeling out of breath
    Forgetfulness and difficulty concentrating
    Moodiness, irritability, or depression

And one that isn't on this list is struggle with weight gain/loss. I struggled with weight loss and now I am starting to lose easier. I also have a friend that is a power lifter that struggled to gain the weight. He was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea as well and has since put on the weight he was looking for.

Please get yourself checked for this. If you doctor doesn't feel that is a possibilty, get a second opinion. I had been to a neurologist for chronic headaches and was subsequently put on blood pressure medicine. This particular neurologist was a sleep study specialist and even ran a sleep clinic in his office. Never once did he mention the possibility of this diagnosis. It wasn't until I went to my dentist and was discussing medications with him that he (my DENTIST) referred me to a sleep study specialist (actually the very neurologist that I was seeing) and I chose to see a different doctor in town that specializes in sleep disorders.

    Good luck with this!

I have all narrowed it down to the fact that I work the night shift and it is messing with me... It has my body and mind all off balance... My fiance things I need to work a different shift, so as soon as I get the chance I am going to apply for a different shift :)
